Over 800 people of all ages have taken part in the inaugural edition of Caritas’ Run for Life on Sunday morning, including over 60 people following residential drug rehabilitation programmes.

The event, organised in collaboration with the St Patrick’s Athletic Club, saw adult participants take part in races of 5km and 10km or in a 2.5km walk. Smaller runs of 2.5km and 1km were also organised for children, many of whom train in Malta’s various athletic clubs.

Fittingly, the starting point for every run was the San Blas Therapeutic Community in the limits of Żebbuġ, where Caritas Malta offers separate rehabilitation programmes for men and women seeking to overcome substance abuse.

As he addressed participants, Caritas Malta director Anthony Gatt highlighted that the venue “saved thousands of people who got their life back,” including through the promotion of athletic activity.

“Let us send a message to everyone in our society that you can lead a healthy, happy and full life, without using drugs,” Gatt said.

The event concluded with a prize-giving ceremony for every category and age group.
