La Salle Malta, the network of Lasallian colleges in the country, hosted the 26th Annual Congress of ASSEDIL from Wednesday, 23rd April to Saturday, 26th April 2025. The event was held at Stella Maris College in Gżira and brought together over 120 educational leaders from Lasallian universities, schools, and institutions across Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East.

ASSEDIL — the Association of Lasallian Educational Leaders — serves as a vital platform for collaboration and dialogue among those committed to the Lasallian educational mission. This year’s Congress explored the theme “Growing Together in Lasallian Spirituality,” emphasising the shared values of faith, service, and community in education.

Inspired by St John Baptist de La Salle, the patron saint of educators, the De La Salle Brothers and their lay partners continue to offer a human and Christian education to millions of young people worldwide, particularly those most in need. The Congress provided participants with an opportunity for reflection, spiritual formation, and renewed commitment to this transformative mission.

A special highlight of the Congress was a Mass celebrated by the Auxiliary Bishop of Malta, Monsignor Joseph Galea-Curmi, on Friday, 25th April. The event concluded the following day with a keynote address by Brother Armin Luistro, Superior General of the De La Salle Brothers, who visited Malta for the occasion. Following the Congress, Brother Armin remained on the island for an official visit to the Lasallian educational institutions: De La Salle College, Stella Maris College, and St Benild School.

This significant international gathering underscored Malta’s integral role within the global Lasallian community and its continued contribution to faith-based education in the region.

Commenting about the event, Joseph Gilson, Chairperson of the Board of La Salle Malta, said: “Hosting this year’s ASSEDIL Congress is both an honour and a responsibility. It’s a unique opportunity for us to reflect together as Lasallian leaders, to deepen our spiritual roots, and to strengthen our common mission of serving young people, especially those most in need.”
