Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle is the key guest speaker for the annual Aquinas Lecture, scheduled for Wednesday 8th May 2024 at 7pm, at the MUSEUM Auditorium in Blata l-Bajda. The general public is encouraged to attend.
Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, Pro-Prefect for the Section of First Evangelisation of the Dicastery for Evangelisation, will be speaking about how we can convey God and his Word in today’s world.

The Aquinas Lecture is an event organised by the Faculty of Theology and the Theology Students’ Association at the University of Malta. This year’s lecture is organised in collaboration with the the Society of Christian Doctrine.
Details about Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle
Cardinal Tagle was born in the Philippines in 1957. He was ordained priest in 1982 and served in several different roles such as parochial vicar, spiritual director, and as Rector of the Seminary of Imus. As he finished his studies in the United States, he was appointed Episcopal Vicar for Religious, and later on as a parish priest. He was a theology lecturer in two seminaries in the Philippines. Between 1997 and 2002, Pope John Paul II appointed Tagle to the International Theological Commission. In 2001, Tagle was appointed Bishop of Imus, and Archbishop of Manila in 2011.
The following year, Pope Benedict XVI appointed Tagle as member of the College of the Cardinals. Along the years, Cardinal Tagle became a member of several congregations of the Holy See working for the pastoral care of families, migrants and itinerant people, consecrated life, and the laity. He also served in commissions responsible of legislative texts, inter-religious dialogue, oriental churches, and for the patrimony of the Holy See. In 2022, the pope named him member of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments.
Currently, Tagle is serving as the Pro-Prefect for the Section of First Evangelisation of the Dicastery for Evangelisation.
