Fr Jethro Bajada said that he is very content that he will spend Christmas and New Year’s Day at the Corradino Correctional Facility. Since he celebrates mass on Wednesdays, he will be celebrating mass on both Christmas and New Year’s Day. He said that regardless of whether the prisoners are Catholics or not, they are still happy that someone goes to visit them.
He said that it would not be his first time celebrating mass at prison because he has already gone a number of times with other Capuchin friars. Fr Jethro explained that it is not easy to feel like it is Christmas in the prison, so the friars try and create this feeling and also bring them some sweets from the convent.
Fr Jethro was participating on the youth programme BTW which is aired every Wednesday at 5pm on RTK103. The theme of this programme was the idea of a communal Christmas. Also present on this programme was Miriam Grech from the Diocese of Wied il-Għajn, and Deborah Debono, a youth worker from Aġenzija Żgħażagħ.
“In Međugorje I had a significant experience of happiness and peace”
Asked how he became a Capuchin friar, he said that he was always close to the Capuchins since he would live close to their convent. He was thus familiar with their work. However, he also experienced a sense of happiness and peace in Međugorje which led him to take this step.
Residents of the three Capuchin residences owned all invited to their Christmas lunch
He mentioned how their day is oriented around prayer and food. He also explained the work of the Capuchin friars with the poor as well as those experiencing mental health difficulties.
The residents of the three residences owned by the Capuchin friars are all invited to their Christmas lunch. These are about 40 persons, and all very keenly look forward this lunch. “They come early because they look forward to it so much!”
He also spoke of their version of the song ‘We Three Kings’ that they released this year, which brings together in a visual manner, their work with the homeless, victims of domestic violence, as well as suffering from loneliness.
