The BOV Volleyball Marathon in aid of Dar tal-Providenza will kick off today at 6pm. The 53 hours non-stop volleyball Marathon, which will be held at the Car Park of the same Dar tal-Providenza will come to an end at midnight on Saturday.
The marathon will be inaugurated by H.E. The President, Dr. George Abela.
Some of Malta’s best talent will be participating and entertaining those who will attend on the three days. Amongst the performers who will be livening up the Marathon one finds the likes of Elenor Cassar, Claudette Pace, La Barokka, Glen Vella, Janvil, Deborah C, Roger Tirazona, Mikaela, Martin Elvis, Greenfields, Fabrizio Faniello, Chiara, Mary Rose Mallia, Renato, Thea Garret, Amber, Freddie Portelli, Ludwig Galea, Paul Abela’s Live Band and Kurt Calleja.
Apart from this spectacle, within the environs of the Marathon there will be ample space dedicated to entertainment specifically for children for which the entrance will be free of charge. There will be a Bouncing Castle, Face Painting and a Balloons Modeller. Food and drinks will be on sale at very reasonable prices.
The Maltese are invited to attend, make their donations and have fun, in aid of id-Dar tal-Providenza.
The marathon has a number of aims. First and foremost is the important aim of collecting funds so that Dar tal-Providenza can continue to provide and improve the service it gives to its residents. Id-Dar tal-Providenza, offers a family environment to a number of people who suffer from disabilities, and who for one reason or another, can’t live with their families. It also offers a service of respite to families of people suffering from disabilities, in a way that it provides support so that people with disabilities can also live with their natural families.
The second aim is that of promoting voluntary work, while the third aim is that of encouraging sport. Last but not least, this marathon is also sending the important message to society, to respect people with disability, treat them with dignity and offer them the opportunities and choices that everyone has a right to enjoy.
