The religious counsellors and chaplains working in State and Independent schools gathered to share their ideas and experiences on how they can continue nurturing the Christian faith, promoting inclusivity, and addressing the spiritual needs of various communities in schools.

They recognized the importance of having a model of faith through actions, values, and relationships with the different members of the school community. They also emphasized that multiculturalism among students should encourage religious counsellors to continue being a means of dialogue with students and educators.

The religious counsellors also discussed the various challenges they encounter in schools, including how education is evolving, the changes in society, and the need to address the spiritual and emotional needs of the students, educators, and families.

Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Galea-Curmi was also invited to the meeting, where he encouraged them to keep working and despite the changing times, there is still a genuine desire for the presence of religious counsellors and chaplains in schools. He stated that this is a great grace for the Church in Malta and an opportunity that should not be taken lightly because it highlights the importance of spiritual education in the holistic education of children.

The work of religious counsellors and chaplains in schools reinforces the idea that faith is a bridge that helps to foster unity between people from different cultures and enhances the educational experience for everyone.

The meeting was organized by the Spiritual Development in Schools section within the Archdiocese of Malta, which provides resources and tools to help and support religious counsellors.
