• The Archdiocese of Malta wishes to invite Christians to attend an activity which will consist of prayer for peace in the world and for Christians who are being persecuted in various countries. Following an appeal for prayer, Archbishop Paul Cremona O.P. and Auxiliary Bishop Charles J. Scicluna have expressed their desire for Christians to unite in prayer with Pope Francis, who is continually appealing for peace in various countries which are facing wars and conflicts, and for those communities of Christians which are suffering from violence because of their faith.

This Diocesan activity will take place on Friday 22nd August, feast of the Queenship of Mary, at 7pm. The event will take place at the courtyard of the Sanctuary of the Virgin Mary in Mellieha. During the meeting, there will be the recitation of the rosary for the following five intentions: the persecution of Christians in the world, those who are suffering because of the fighting in Libya and in African countries, the victims of the conflict in Israel and the Palestinian territory, those who are suffering from violence in Iraq and Syria, and the victims of the Ukranian conflict.

At the end of the activity, Archbishop Paul Cremona will deliver a message on this occasion and impart a sacramental blessing.

In the words of Pope Francis, the Bishops of Malta wish to state that: “violence cannot be overcome by violence but by peace”. According to the Pope’s wish, we should “pray in the silence of our hearts to Mary, Queen of Peace”.
