Archbishop Charles Scicluna invites Christians to participate in the Holy Week functions during which the Catholic Church commemorates the passion, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. During these holy days, the Archbishop will preside over the celebrations at St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta.
On Thursday, 2th April, Maundy Thursday, at 9:30am, the Archbishop will celebrate the Chrism Mass, during which the new oils are blessed for the administration of the sacraments until the following Maundy Thursday. During Mass, the diocesan and religious priests will renew their ordination vows. This celebration will be broadcast live on TVM+, Church.mt and Newsbook Malta. In the evening. At 6pm, the Solemn Commemoration of the Lord’s Supper will take place, during which, following the example of Jesus, the Archbishop will wash the feet of several people. At the end of the Mass, the Archbishop will transfer the Eucharist to the chapel of repose for the veneration of the faithful. This celebration will be broadcast on TVM+, Church.mt, Newsbook Malta and RTK 103.
On Friday, 3rd April, Good Friday, at 9:30am, the Archbishop will lead the Liturgy of the Hours and Morning Praise. This celebration will be broadcast live on TVM+, Church.mt, Newsbook Malta and RTK 103. At 3:30pm, he will then lead the Liturgy of the Passion and Death of Our Lord, which includes the proclamation of the Passion according to St John, the adoration of the cross and holy communion. This celebration will be broadcast live on Church.mt, Newsbook Malta and RTK 103. On Saturday, 4th April, Easter Saturday, at 9:30am, the Archbishop will lead the Liturgy of the Hours and Morning Praise. This celebration will be broadcast live on TVM+, Church.mt, Newsbook Malta, and RTK 103. At 8pm, he will lead the Liturgy of the Easter Vigil. The celebration will begin with the blessing of new fire on the parvis of St John’s Co-Cathedral, and continues with the Liturgy of the Word, the Liturgy of Baptism, and the Liturgy of the Eucharist. During this celebration, the Sacraments of Christian Initiation (baptism, confirmation and holy communion) will be administered to several adult catechumens. This celebration will be broadcast live on TVM+, Church.mt, Newsbook Malta and RTK 103.
On Sunday, 5 April, Easter Sunday, at 9:30am, the Archbishop will celebrate the Pontifical Mass of the Resurrection of the Lord at the Co-Cathedral of St John, Valletta. This will be broadcast on TVM, Church.mt, Newsbook Malta and RTK 103.
