Missionary Movement

The Missionary Movement was initiated in 1968 by the Theology students at the Seminary and in the various religious Orders; later on female religious and several lay people joined the movement. Its aims are:

  • keeping contact with and helping Maltese missionaries abroad;
  • collecting funds to promote its activities and help Maltese missionaries in their projects of evangelisation and human promotion;
  • training lay people for voluntary work in mission lands;
  • organising groups of people in Malta and abroad, encouraging them to lead a community life and give Christian witness; some of these groups go abroad for brief periods each year during the holidays to work in the missions (Egypt, Brazil), while others in Malta organize a Missionary Camp;
  • organizing a Missionary competition among primary and secondary school children each year for Mission Sunday.
