The Church in Malta inaugurates its first thrift shop

A shop embracing solidarity and environmental protection

The Diaconia Unit of the Church in Malta inaugurated its first thrift shop, named LOOP. The primary aim of this project is to give dignity to individuals facing challenging circumstances, while encouraging environmental consciousness and solidarity within the community.

Bishop Emeritus Paul Darmanin O.F.M. Cap. passes away

Bishop Emeritus Mgr Paul Darmanin O.F.M. Cap. passed away last night at the age of 82.

In 1984, Mgr Darmanin was ordained the first bishop of the Diocese of Garissa in Kenya. He led this diocese up to 2015, after which he retired in Malta where he lived in the Convent of the Capuchin Friars in Floriana. Read more »

Pope Francis entrusts Archbishop Scicluna with Perù mission

Archbishop Charles Scicluna is in Perù to undertake a mission entrusted to him by Pope Francis. 

During his visit, the Archbishop, who also serves as Adjunct Secretary for the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, will conduct a number of private meetings. He is not in a position to comment or answer questions related to this mission.

New course in Scripture Studies

Bursaries of €2,000 for studies in Theology and other pastoral fields

For the 2023-2024 academic year, the Foundation for Theological Studies of the Archdiocese of Malta will be offering 10 bursaries to individuals who wish to pursue further studies in theology and pastoral fields within the Faculty of Theology.

The bursaries will be distributed according to these criteria:

Restoration of Qrendi parish church façade inaugurated

Tlesta l‑proġett ta’ restawr fuq il‑faċċata, u fuq il‑ġenb tal‑kampnar tax‑xellug tal‑knisja parrokkjali tal‑Qrendi, proġett li sar b’investiment ta’ €84,000 li 80% minnhom kienu kofinanzjati minn fondi tal‑Unjoni Ewropea. Il‑proġett ġie inawgurat mis‑Segretarju Parlamentari għall‑Fondi Ewropej Chris Bonett u mill‑Isqof Awżiljarju Joseph Galea‑Curmi. Preżenti għall‑inawgurazzjoni kien hemm ukoll is‑Segretarju Amministrattiv tal‑Arċidjoċesi ta’ Malta Michael Pace Ross, l‑Amministratur Parrokkjali Dun Mario Said.

L-Arċisqof Charles Scicluna ħatar lil Dun Anton D’Amato bħala kappillan tal-Parroċċa ta’ Marija Mtellgħa s-Sema, Ħal Għaxaq.

Dun Anton D’Amato twieled fis‑27 ta’ Ottubru 1984 u trabba ż‑Żurrieq. Huwa ggradwa fl‑2009 mill‑Fakultà tal‑Liġi fl‑Università ta’ Malta. Archbishop visits Maltese patients in London

Archbishop Charles Scicluna concluded a two-day pastoral visit to London, where he met with Maltese patients and their families who are currently undergoing treatment in the United Kingdom.

During this visit, Archbishop Scicluna had the opportunity to meet with Maltese residents at Puttinu House in Sutton. He presided over a Mass and encouraged the patients to remain steadfast in their faith. Archbishop visits St Michael Hospice

Church property to help patients in need of palliative care

Earlier today, Archbishop Charles Scicluna visited the St Michael Hospice in Santa Venera which is nearing completion and is expected to receive its first patients towards the end of this year. The premises, previously known as Adelaide Cini Institute, cover approximately 15,000 square metres and were given to Hospice Malta by the Church in 2018.
