Pope at Angelus: Authentic faith is words and actions

  Saint Peter's Square, the Vatican

Dear brothers and sisters, happy Sunday!

At the heart of today’s Gospel (Lk 13:22-30), we find the image of the “narrow gate,” which Jesus uses in his answer to someone who asks him if only a few will be saved. Jesus says, “Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able” (v 24)… Read more »

Pope offers prayers for flood victims in Pakistan, Nepal and India

  Castel Gandolfo, Italy

Dear brothers and sisters, happy Sunday!

Today’s Gospel presents us with a demanding text (cf. Lk 12:49-53), in which Jesus uses strong images and great frankness to teach his disciples that his mission, and even that of his followers, is not a “bed of roses”, but a “sign of contradiction” (cf. Lk 2:34).

In this way, the Lord anticipates what he will have to face in Jerusalem when he will be opposed, arrested, insulted, beaten, crucified; when his message of love and justice will be rejected; when the leaders of the people will react with viciousness at his preaching… Read more »

Welcome Christ in the poor – The Pope

Sanctuary of Santa Maria della Rotonda in Albano, Italy

Having returned to Castel Gandolfo in the Castelli Romani on 13 August, Pope Leo XIV presided over Mass at the Sanctuary of Santa Maria della Rotonda. Reflecting on the gift of celebrating another day together, the Pope turned to the “greater gift” that Christ has already overcome: death. He explained that Sunday is a reminder of this victory.

He acknowledged that while we might come to church with fear and anxiety, “immediately we are less alone” once we gather together and encounter the Word and Body of Christ… Read more »

Dear brothers and sisters,

Today is not Sunday, yet we celebrate in another way the Paschal Mystery of Jesus, which changed the course of history. By taking flesh in her, the God of life — the God of freedom — has conquered death… Read more »
