The Pope declared Cardinal Newman ”blessed” before thousands of worshippers
Thousands of people have witnessed the Pope’s beatification of 19th Century theologian Cardinal John Henry Newman, as his UK state visit was in its final stage.

Pope in UK
The Pope is leading an assembly of children in west London on day two of his four-day state visit to the UK, which is the seventeenth apostolic trip of his pontificate. After prayers Benedict XVI travelled in his popemobile through the grounds of St Mary’s University College in Twickenham.

Carmel is a late vocation. Born at Floriana forty eight years on. He married, lived for 23 long years in the UK working with the Postal Services, and returned to Malta for good after losing his wife to cancer.
