Pope to visit UK

A Vatican spokesman is confirming Benedict XVI’s September 16-19 trip to the United Kingdom. In a statement released today, Jesuit Father Federico Lombardi, director of the Vatican press office, affirmed that “accepting the invitation of Her Majesty Elizabeth II, Queen of the United Kingdom, and of the bishops’ conferences of England and Wales, and of Scotland, His Holiness Benedict XVI will make an apostolic trip to the United Kingdom from 16 to 19 September.”

The priest noted that the Pope will visit the queen “at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh,” Scotland… Read more »

Pope at Castel Gandolfo

Benedict XVI is moving to the Apostolic Palace of Castel Gandolfo on July 7th. It was made known by the Prefecture of the Pontifical House today, through a press release issued by the Vatican press room.

Benedict XVI will be praying this month for transparent elections, as well as the promotion of peace, especially in the world’s cities.

The Apostleship of Prayer announced the intentions chosen by the Pope for July. His general prayer intention is: “That in every nation of the world the election of officials may be carried out with justice, transparency and honesty, respecting the free decisions of citizens.”

The theme for the 44th edition of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2011 (the first took place in 1968) is “One in the apostles’ teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread and prayer”. Benedict XVI dedicated today’s Wednesday audience to St. Joseph Cafasso on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of his death.
