Fammine in Africa. Pope appeals for aid.

Following his catechesis during this morning’s general audience the Holy Father launched an appeal to the international community to help people suffering famine in the Horn of Africa.

The Secretariat for Social Communications organized a seminar intended for all those persons who are in some way involved in the production and/or presentation of religious and socio-religious programmes. Last Sunday 2 October, Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone S.D.B. represented the Holy Father at the beatification of Antonia Maria Verna (1773-1838). The beatification ceremony was held in the cathedral of Ivrea, Italy.

On Saturday 1st October 2011, Mgr Emanuel Barbara OFM Cap was ordained Bishop of Malindi in Kenya. The ceremony which started at 9am and ended at 2pm (local time in Malta) was held in the grounds of a primary school in the city of Malindi.
