Ethical guidelines on the care of older persons Download

The Church in Malta has published ethical guidelines on care for the elderly, stating that the right to life entails the means for “proper protection and development of life” till the very final stages.

Compiled by a group of experts and ethicists, the publication, entitled ‘Care for Elderly Persons in Church Residential Homes in Malta: Ethical Guidelines,’ reaffirms the duty of citizens to promote the dignity of the elderly community and respect the sanctity of human life from the moment of conception until natural death.

Archbishop Charles Scicluna has appointed Fr Matthew Pulis as the parish priest of Saint Joseph Parish, Manikata. The Archbishop thanks Fr Peter Paul Sultana for his pastoral service within the community.

The Safeguarding Commission of the Church in Malta last year concluded that nine of 21 cases involving vulnerable adults were substantiated, Head of Safeguarding Mark Pellicano said at the presentation of the 2024 Commission’s Annual Report.

Four of these involved two Religious and were of a sexual nature; however, only one clergyman was referred to the authorities since the victims in the other case, which happened more than 10 years ago, declined to file a police report in spite of the Commission’s offer of assistance… Read more »
