Pope in Castel Gandolfo

The Holy Father focused his remarks ahead of the Angelus on this Sunday’s Gospel reading, which is taken from the sixth chapter of the Gospel according to St. John (Jn 6:24-35), in which Our Lord begins to reveal Himself as the Bread of Life.

People suffering after tsunami in Japan in 2011

Pope Benedict XVI sent his blessings to the twenty-fifth Interreligious Gathering of Prayer for World Peace on Mount Hiei in Japan, which began on Friday. The Summit includes a symposium studying the response of religious leaders to natural disasters. Jesus-of-Nazareth-Vol II

Pope Benedict XVI has finished the third volume of Jesus of Nazareth, dedicated to the stories of Jesus’ infancy. A statement from the Press Office of the Holy See explains that this third volume, which is the completion of the previous two, is at present being translated from the original German into several languages – including English.

Pope praying

Benedict XVI will be praying this month for young people and their apostolic zeal in proclaiming Christ.

The Apostleship of Prayer announced the intentions chosen by the Pope for August.

His mission intention is “that young people, called to follow Christ, may be willing to proclaim and bear witness to the Gospel to the ends of the earth.”

And the Pontiff’s general intention focuses on prisoners: “that prisoners may be treated with justice and respect for their human dignity.” Read more »
