The Pope welcomes Orthodox delegation for feast of St Peter and St Paul

On the feast day of Saints Peter and Paul, Pope Francis urged 46 new metropolitan archbishops to hear the first apostles’ call to prayer, to faith and to witness. The Pope’s words came during his homily at Mass in St Peter’s Basilica which included several significant ecumenical initiatives. Every year on June 29th, solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, a high level delegation from the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Istanbul travels to the Vatican to celebrate this great feast of the patron saints of the Church in Rome…

On Monday 29th June 2015, Pope Francis delivered the homily at Mass celebrated in St. Peter’s Basilica on Monday, the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, Patrons of Rome. The Mass also saw the ceremonial gift of the Pallium – the peculiar sign of the office of a Metropolitan Archbishop. Archbishop Charles J. Scicluna received the pallium with other Archbishops.

On Wednesday 24th June 2015, Archbishop Charles J. Scicluna gave a presentation of the main points of the Encyclical of Pope Francis entitled Laudato Si’ (Praise be to you, my Lord). The self-inflicted wounds of the family and the need to put aside anger and friction to protect the couple’s children were at the heart of Pope Francis’ message to thousands of pilgrims gathered for the weekly General Audience on Wednesday. Speaking under overcast skies in St. Peter’s Square, Pope Francis reflected on the Gospel reading from Matthew (Mt 18,6) in which Jesus says to his disciples, “unless you turn and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.” And, Christ’s grave warning: “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.” A family’s wounds and end of conjugal love a “landslide” burying children No family is immune to words and actions – or lack there-of – which “diminish or even worse, mortify love,” the Pope said…
