Child protection expert responds to German abuse report

  • Father Hans Zollner, SJ says a new report on abuse at a prestigious German musical institution is an “important step forward.” Father Zollner is President of the Centre for Child Protection of the Pontifical Gregorian University, and a member of the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors.

Dar Papa Franġisku provides food to 280 persons

  • Bejn Jannar u Ġunju ta’ din is-sena kien hemm 283 persuna li ġew mgħejjuna minn Dar Papa Franġisku u u ngħataw is-servizz ta’ ikliet b’xejn.

    Minn informazzjoni ngħatat fil-Parlament, minn dawn il-283 persuna, 165 kienu Maltin u l-kumplament, jiġifieri t-118 persuna l-oħra, kienu barranin.

Angelus: As the sower Jesus performs a spiritual radiography of our heart

  • During his Angelus address on Sunday to the pilgrims and tourists who braved the heat in St Peter’s Square, Pope Francis recalled the Gospel reading of the day, the famous parable of the sower.

€186,000 collected in Oħloq Tbissima marathon

  • €186,361 were collected in the 60 hour Oħloq Tbissima marathon, in aid of the missions in the care of the Missionary Society of St. Paul (MSSP).

    At the end of the 15th edition of the marathon, Fr Louis Mallia thanked all volunteers who helped in one way or another, the contribution of each one being of great importance. He also pointed out that together with this sum, a container full of goods would soon be sent to Peru…

Little boy born without a brain can now speak, count, and attend school

  • When Noah Wall was born, the doctors said he probably wouldn’t survive and if he did, he would be severely physically and developmentally disabled. Born with only 2 percent of his brain to a family in Cumbria, England, Noah had no hope — at least according to the doctors.

Former administrators of Bambino Gesù Foundation indicted

  • The Holy See Press Office has issued a statement concerning indictments for embezzlement of funds from the Bambino Gesù Foundation, which exists to support the work of the Bambino Gesù Children’s Hospital.

    The Statement says the former President of the Foundation, Giuseppe Profiti, and the former Treasurer of the same Foundation, Massimo Spina, were summoned to appear before the court to answer charges that they diverted more than four hundred thousand euro (€400,000) belonging to the Foundation…

‘No religion’ in Australia overtakes number of Catholics

  • Australians who declared in last year’s Census that they had “no religion” have overtaken the number of Catholics for the first time, although Christianity is still the religion of more than half the population.

    Figures released recently from the Census held last August showed that 30 per cent of Australians reported that they had no religion in 2016, with Catholics making up 22.6 per cent of all Australians – more than 5.2 million people – down from 25.3 per cent in the previous Census in 2011…

The Church reiterates her commitment in favour of marriage between a man and a woman

  • The Maltese Parliament yesterday approved the Marriage Act and other Laws (Amendment) Act, 2017. This law appropriates the meaning of marriage and applies it also to relations between people of the same sex.
