Today, at 16:00, the Holy Father met with 34 Chilean bishops in Paolo VI Hall. A further meeting will take place on Wednesday afternoon, May 16, and two more meetings on Thursday, May 17th.
This evening the Pope delivered to each of the bishops a text with some themes to meditate on; from this moment until the next meeting, a time dedicated exclusively to meditation and prayer will be open.

In Iran, conversion to Christianity can be a crime meriting a sentence of more than 10 years imprisonment. Catholic churches within the country are closely monitored with surveillance cameras to ensure that Muslims do not enter, and religious schools are limited in what they can teach, an Iranian-born journalist, Sohrab Ahmari, explained to CNA.

The Justice and Peace Commission of the Maltese Dominican Province, through the seminar The Problem of Poverty, desires to give its contribution to create more awareness regarding the complex problem of poverty. Pope Francis in his late Apostolic Exhortation, Gaudete et Exsultate, insists that we Christians, “cannot uphold an ideal of holiness that would ignore injustice in a world where some revel, spend with abandon and live only for the latest consumer goods, even as others look on from afar, living their entire lives in abject poverty.” (GE par.101)

In a telegramme addressed to the Archbishop of Agrigento in Sicily on Wednesday evening, Pope Francis marked the 25th anniversary of Saint Pope John Paul II’s visit to the town of Agrigento where he denounced the mafia’s organized criminal activities and called on ‘mafiosi’ criminals to convert.
