10 bursaries by the Foundation for Theological Studies

  • The Foundation for Theological Studies is launching ten bursary schemes to encourage individuals to pursue postgraduate studies in pastoral areas at the Faculty of Theology of the University of Malta. 

    The Foundation, established in 1988 by Archbishop Joseph Mercieca, among its objectives gives priority to the development of theological studies in Malta.

    In line with recent developments in the local Church and in the light of the pastoral vision of Pope Francis, the Foundation for Theological Studies hopes to contribute to academically-trained pastoral ministers in various areas of the life of the local Church…

Secretariat committed to resolving issues while upholding Church schools autonomy

  • The Secretariat for Catholic Education is surprised that the Malta Union of Teachers (MUT) declared an industrial dispute on issues it is working on to resolve. The Union is also informed that, in the coming days, the Secretariat has meetings scheduled with different entities to discuss the issues highlighted by the MUT.

Appointment of Auxiliary Bishop of Malta Mgr Joseph Galea-Curmi

  • The Holy Father Pope Francis has appointed Monsignor Joseph Galea-Curmi as Auxiliary Bishop of Malta nominating him Titular Bishop of Cebarades. Presently, Monsignor Galea-Curmi is the Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Malta.

    As Auxiliary Bishop, His Lordship Monsignor Galea-Curmi, 54, will be the closest collaborator and advisor of His Grace Archbishop Charles J. Scicluna with leadership responsibilities in the Curia and in diocesan pastoral ministry.

Working document for synod on youth presented

  • The ‘Instrumentum Laboris’ or the working document of the upcoming Synod of Bishops on youth, scheduled from October 3-28 in the Vatican, has three main sections, namely, recognizing, interpreting and choosing with regard to vocation in life.
