Preparation for the European continental meeting – Synod on Synodality

The Church of God is currently convoked in synod on the theme ‘For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation and Mission’. By means of this convocation, Pope Francis invites the entire Church to reflect on a theme that is decisive for its life and mission.

Archbishop Scicluna: Vatican must treat abuse victims better

Victims of abuse by members of the clergy have a right to know how their report is handled, Malta’s Archbishop Charles Scicluna said.

In a National Catholic Reporter interview, Mgr Scicluna admitted the Vatican is not at what he termed “an optimal point” with regard to how it follows up with abuse victims, calling the matter “something that needs to be developed.”

Archbishop Scicluna, who serves as an adjunct secretary for the Vatican’s Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith and has investigated abuse claims across the world, said: “Most of the suffering I have seen is when victims are left in the dark without any follow-up of the disclosure they have given.”

“We have a law and we have a system which empowers people to disclose abuse or misconduct, but you also have the right to know what happens with their reports,” he said in the interview held just hours after Francis celebrated the historic Vatican funeral for Benedict last week… Read more »

Exterior of Valletta’s Ta’ Ġieżu church being restored

The exterior of the historic Franciscan Church of St Mary of Jesus in Valletta – popularly known as the Ta’ Ġieżu church – is being restored through a €300,000 project overseen by the Restoration Directorate within the Ministry for the National Heritage, The Arts and Local Government.

Pope Francis describes Benedict as a ‘faithful friend’ of Jesus

Thousands paid homage to Pope Benedict XVI on Thursday, with a funeral at St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City.

Our Lady of Sorrows shrine in Sliema damaged in construction works

An old shrine for Our Lady of Sorrows in Sliema has suffered extensive damages as a result of construction works, though a restoration is being planned.

In a Facebook post, Sliema local council explained that during a renovation project undertaken by St Joseph School, which extends towards Tower Lane, saw the destruction of a wall over which the shrine was located.

The council deplored the act and called on the authorities to take action so that both the wall and the shrine are replaced as soon as possible… Read more »
