Providing out of their resources – Bishop Galea-Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

L-Evanġelju skont San Luqa hu l-evanġelju li jagħti importanza lin-nisa, l-iktar wieħed. Fil-fatt, hu fl-evanġelju tiegħu li nsibu li kien hemm dixxipli nisa. Illum jissemmew uħud minnhom – dixxipli ta’ Ġesù li kienu nisa – u dawn sabu f’Ġesù dak li salvahom, dak li ħelishom, u tahom ħajja ġdida. Fil-fatt naqraw li Ġesù kien “fejjaqhom mill-ispirti ħżiena u mill-mard” (Lq 8:2)… Read more »

The Archbishop about Queen Elizabeth II: a beautiful example of how to be a leader without fanfare

Mass De Requiem for Queen Elizabeth II

  St John's Co-Cathedral, Valletta

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

“Jekk xi ħadd irid jaqdini, għandu jimxi warajja” (Ġw 12:26). Aħna u nirringrazzjaw lill-Mulej għax-xhieda sabiħa tar-Reġina Eliżabetta II u noffru din il-quddiesa b’suffraġju għal ruħha, irridu nsellmu wkoll dixxiplu fidil tal-Mulej.

Meta fl-1953 għamlet messaġġ fl-okkażjoni tal-inkurunazzjoni tagħha, hi talbet lis-sudditi tagħha u liċ-ċittadini kollha tal-Commonwealth dan il-pjaċir: “I want to ask you all, whatever your religion may be, to pray for me on that day—to pray that God may give me wisdom and strength to carry out the solemn promises I shall be making, and that I may faithfully serve Him and you, all the days of my life… Read more »

Our Lady of Sorrows – Memorial
Readings of the day

First Reading: Hebrews 5:7-9
Psalm: 30:2-6,15-16,20

Gospel: John 19:25-27

Meanwhile, standing near the cross of Jesus were his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing beside her, he said to his mother, “Woman, here is your son.” Then he said to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home.  Read more »

The power of the sign of the cross – The Archbishop

Mass on the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross

The Church of St Mary of Jesus, Valletta

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Huwa Ġesù stess li jqabbel lilu nnifsu mas-serp tal-bronż, li Mosè refa’ fid-deżert biex ikun sinjal ta’ fejqan għall-poplu kollu. “Kif Mosè refa’ s-serp fid-deżert, hekk jeħtieġ li jkun merfugħ Bin il-Bniedem” (Ġw 3:14). Illum, fil-festa tal-Eżaltazzjoni tas-Salib, naqraw dan l-Evanġelju. Il-kelma ‘eżaltazzjoni’ tfisser ‘irfigħ’, jiġifieri li tintrefa’ ’l fuq. Nużawha wkoll għall-glorja ta’ xi ħadd. Ġesù jgħaqqad l-glorja tiegħu, l-eżaltazzjoni tiegħu, proprju mat-tislib tiegħu fuq l-Għuda… Read more »

First Reading: Numbers 21:4b-9
Psalm: 77:1-2,34-38
Second Reading: Philemon 2:6-11

Gospel: John 3:13-17

In those days, Jesus told Nicodemus: “No one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.”  Read more »

A word that heals – Bishop Galea-Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Iżda int ordna b’kelma, u l-qaddej tiegħi jfiq” (Lq 6:8). Dan kien il-messaġġ li ċ-ċenturjun bagħat ma’ xi ħbieb tiegħu lil Ġesù. Ftit qabel, kien bagħat ukoll lil xi nies biex lil Ġesù jgħidulu li għandu l-qaddej, li qiegħed ħażin ħafna, u jitolbuh biex imur id-dar biex ifejqu. U Ġesù beda miexi lejn id-dar taċ-ċenturjun. Imma meta kien mhux wisq ’il bogħod, iċ-ċenturjun bagħat xi nies oħra biex jgħidulu: “toqgħodx tinqala’, għax ma jistħoqqlix li tidħol taħt is-saqaf tiegħi… iżda int ordna b’kelma, u l-qaddej tiegħi jfiq” (Lq 6:6.8)… Read more »

The joy of God’s mercy is when he can embrace us again – The Archbishop

Mass on the 24th Sunday in Ordinary Time

The Shrine of Our Lady 'tal-Ħerba', Birkirkara

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Hi grazzja kbira li nisimgħu dawn it-tliet parabboli li Ġesù jagħżel biex jispjega lill-Fariżej xi tfisser il-ħniena ta’ Alla għal kull wieħed u waħda minna. “Il-pubblikani u l-midinbin kienu jersqu lejn Ġesù bi ħġarhom biex jisimgħuh. U kemm il-Fariżej u kemm il-kittieba kienu jgemgmu u jgħidu: ‘Nies midinba jilqa’ għandu dan u jiekol magħhom’” (Lq 15:1-2).

F’dan il-kuntest Ġesù jipprova jispjega lil dawn il-kittieba u l-Fariżej għaliex hu għażel li jilqa’ għandu lill-midinba, għaliex għażel li jiekol magħhom… Read more »
