  • The Sisters of St. Joseph of the Apparition have been in Malta since 1842. Saint Emily de Vialar the founder of the congregation, on her way to Algiers was shipwrecked at Malta; the saint saw in this a sign from God to establish her congregation here. She opened a school at Vittoriosa, and soon after the sisters were called to take care of the Conservatory at Cospicua for orphans from the Cottonera district. Today the sisters have four schools in Malta.
