  • The Maltese congregation of Dominican Sisters was founded in 1889 in Gozo, by Miss Carolina Cauchi and in 1893 Fr. Fruhwirth, the then Master General of the Dominicans, aggregated the Maltese congregation to the Dominican Order. In 1918 the congregation opened its first home in Malta: Casa San Pietro at Lija. Other homes then followed: St. Joseph’ s Home at Żabbar, Lourdes Home at Mġarr, Gozo, Apap Institute at ħamrun, St Catherine’ s Home at Attard as well as small homes at Victoria (Trionfi House), Naxxar and Safi. The Mother House is at Tal-Virtu’ . The Maltese Dominican Sisters are found in the United Kingdom, in Italy, in Australia, in Pakistan and in Sri Lanka.
