A large group of adolescents who will receive the sacrament of Confirmation this year met Archbishop Charles Scicluna on Saturday, 14 March, at the Basilica of Christ the King in Paola. The adolescents, who came from various Maltese parishes, were accompanied by their catechists. The meeting was organised by Lifelong Catechesis within the Archdiocese of Malta as part of the catechetical formation offered to young candidates for Confirmation.

The encounter took the form of a dialogue between the Archbishop and a number of adolescents, who asked him a series of questions on behalf of their peers. Among other topics, the Archbishop explained the meaning of the sacrament of Confirmation and answered questions about his vocation to the priesthood and his episcopal ministry. He also spoke about how adolescents can continue to live a life of faith and remain active members of the ecclesial community after receiving the sacrament of Confirmation.

He urged those present to build authentic friendships and encouraged them to deepen their relationship with Jesus.

The Archbishop also prayed for the Holy Spirit to fill “the hearts of these adolescents. Give them the wisdom to recognise the right path, the strength to walk in it, and the joy that fills the heart of anyone living in your light. With your help, may they become a source of light for their friends, their families, and the whole community.”
