The Coordinator of Diocesan Presence in the Mediterranean is responsible for fostering Mediterranean synodality in collaboration with the Diocesan Service for Mediterranean Relations at the Archdiocese of Marseille, as encouraged by Pope Francis. This role also entails close cooperation with Malta’s representative to the Youth Council of the Mediterranean to cultivate a Mediterranean consciousness among young people in Malta. The coordinator is also tasked with engaging Maltese society in rediscovering the island’s natural beauty, cultural heritage, and spiritual traditions through a Mediterranean perspective. Additionally, the role emphasises fostering intercultural and interreligious dialogue, encouraging mutual respect and understanding among diverse communities. A key element of the mission involves crafting “renewed and shared narratives” that harmonise historical memory with present realities, offering a vision rooted in peace, reconciliation and hope.
