The MSSP Oratory Youths are set to host their popular ‘Bible & Beer’ event on 21st November 2024 at Vecchia Napoli, Salini, at 8pm. Targeted toward young adults aged 18 to 35, the event will create a welcoming space for open dialogue on the impact of addiction and modern habits on daily life.
The upcoming session will address how common activities—such as social media scrolling, binge-watching, and online shopping—can sometimes escalate into serious dependencies, affecting mental health, relationships, and life purpose.
The panel of speakers includes well-known figures in Malta’s addiction treatment and mental health fields. Medical doctor Dr Gianluca Bezzina brings a wealth of experience from his work in addiction treatment. Known for his compassionate approach and strong Christian values, Bezzina balances his career with roles in the Youth Fellowship community and as a husband and father.
Anthony Gatt, a seasoned psychologist and the Director of Caritas Malta, will also contribute as a speaker, integrating his Christian faith into his work supporting addiction recovery. Gatt, with experience from both Caritas and Malta’s Sedqa agency, sees his role as a mission to restore dignity and hope for those struggling with addiction.
Fr. Kevin Schembri, a senior lecturer in canon law and pastoral praxis at the University of Malta, will also be on the panel. Fr. Schembri is known for his approachable style and dedication to youth ministry, frequently leading workshops that encourage young people to reflect on faith, justice, and community engagement. The speakers will guide participants through discussions on how addictive behaviours evolve, examining social pressures, mental health challenges, and the role of spiritual beliefs in overcoming these issues.
The event encourages attendees to share their experiences and insights in a supportive environment, highlighting the importance of faith and community in helping young people build resilience and navigate societal challenges.
To cover event costs, a €12 donation is suggested which includes food and drink. For further details and registration information, visit this page https://oratorjumssp.org/bb-addictions.
