Today, Monday, October 7, the parishes, religious communities, movements, and groups within the Church, along with families and Christians across Malta and Gozo, are called to unite in response to Pope Francis’ invitation. The Holy Father has asked for a day of prayer, particularly the Rosary, and fasting, for peace in the world and the success of the Jubilee of Hope 2025.

The invitation was extended by Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Galea-Curmi to all archpriests, parish priests, and provincials of religious orders in Malta.

This evening at 7pm, on the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, the Rosary will be recited in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore. Marian sanctuaries, basilicas, and Rosary fraternities around the world have welcomed the Pope’s invitation and will join in this global prayer effort.

Today also marks the first anniversary of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.

“In this dramatic hour of our history,” the Pope said, “while the winds of war and the fires of violence continue to devastate entire peoples and nations,” the Christian community is reminded of its call to “put itself at the service of humanity.”

The Pope was speaking after Mass in St Peter’s Square for the opening of the second session of the General Assembly of the Synod.
