Let’s be agents of truth and not agents of lies – The Archbishop

Mass on the solemnity of St Paul, patron of Malta

The Collegiate Church of St Paul Shipwrecked, Valletta

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Mitt sena ilu, fl-1926, il-poeta nazzjonali Dun Karm, bħalma kien għamel għad-disa’ darba, niseġ poeżija epika, biex ifakkar dan il-jum. Din il-poeżija li mhix sunett, għaliex hija poeżija itwal minn tas-soltu, titkellem l-ewwel fuq it-tempesta, imbagħad il-laqgħa ta’ Pawlu mal-poplu tagħna, imbagħad tagħmel talba biex Malta ma tinfired qatt minn Pawlu.

Tgħajjeb is-sema u ġewwa sħaba sewda… Read more »

Shipwreck becomes an event of salvation – Auxiliary Bishop

Mass on the eve of the solemnity of St Paul

The Collegiate Church of St Paul Shipwrecked, Valletta

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Normalment, nawfraġju jfisser traġedja. Ifisser telf, biża’, konfużjoni, u sens ta’ impotenza quddiem il-forzi tan-natura. Nawfraġju normalment ma tiċċelebrahx, imma tfakkru b’ċerta dieqa minħabba l-esperjenza qarsa.

Madankollu, fl-10 ta’ Frar ta’ kull sena l-Knisja f’Malta tiċċelebra nawfraġju. Aktarx hi unika, aktarx ma hemm ħadd ieħor li jiċċelebra nawfraġju. Tiċċelebrah għax dan ma kienx inċident każwali, imma mument ta’ grazzja, meta l-Providenza ta’ Alla messet artna u bidlet il-kors tal-istorja tagħna bil-miġja ta’ San Pawl fostna… Read more »

Second Reading: Acts 27: 13-28,10 or 2 Corinthians 11:18,24-31

Gospel: Mark 16:15-20

In those days, Jesus said to the Eleven, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation. He who believes and is baptised will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God. And they went forth and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by the signs that attended it… Read more »

The Word of God we have heard today leaves us with no room for indifference. Through the prophet Isaiah, God speaks clearly and forcefully about the kind of worship that truly pleases him: “Share your bread with the hungry, shelter the oppressed and the homeless, clothe the naked when you see them, and do not turn your back on your own” (Isaiah 58:7)… Read more »
