I augur the University of Malta will have the power to be a nest of truth and not of deceit – The Archbishop

Mass on the re-opening of the Jesuit's Church

  Valletta

Għadna kemm smajna tiġi proklamata paġna traġika mill-Evanġelju skont San Mark. Ġwanni l-Battista  kellu l-kuraġġ jitkellem il-verità lill-poter: kif nghidu b’esperessjoni qawwija bl-Ingliż: ‘He had the courage to speak truth to power’ u tilef rasu. Aħna bil-Malti meta ngħidu ‘tilef rasu’ nifhmu li bniedem jew siker f’xi passjoni, tista’ tkun il-poter jew ir-regħba, jew litteralment tilef rasu. Ġwanni l-Battista tilef rasu għax qatgħuhilu. Ftit ’il bogħod minn hawn għandna kapulavur ta’ Carvaggio, l-unika wieħed li ffirma, li jimmortalizza din ix-xena tremenda u traġika, tal-poter li quddiem il-verità m’għandux risposta oħra ħlief il-vjolenza… Read more »

A group of University of Malta academics and senior clinical staff at Mater Dei Hospital have expressed support for the Government’s proposed changes to Malta’s organ donation law, provided that ethical safeguards remain fully applicable.

In a position paper responding to the public consultation on proposed amendments to the Human Organs, Tissues and Cell Donation Act, the group is receptive to amendments that would extend Malta’s current framework – which allows organ donation only after brain death – to include donation after circulatory death… Read more »
