The Gospel of the day: 15th January

Readings of the day

First Reading: 1 Samuel 4:1-11
Psalm: 43 (44):10-11,14-15,24-25

Gospel: Mark 1:40-45

In those days, a leper came to Jesus begging him, and kneeling he said to him, “If you choose, you can make me clean.” Moved with pity, Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, and said to him, “I do choose. Be made clean!” Immediately the leprosy left him, and he was made clean. After sternly warning him he sent him away at once, saying to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone; but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”

But he went out and began to proclaim it freely, and to spread the word, so that Jesus could no longer go into a town openly, but stayed out in the country; and people came to him from every quarter… Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 14th January

Readings of the day

First Reading: 1 Samuel 3:1-10,19-20
Psalm: 39 (40):2 & 5,7-8a,8b-9,10

Gospel: Mark 1:29-39

In those days, Jesus left the synagogue and entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they told him about her at once. He came and took her by the hand and lifted her up. Then the fever left her, and she began to serve them.

That evening, at sundown, they brought to him all who were sick or possessed with demons. And the whole city was gathered around the door. And he cured many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him.

In the morning, while it was still very dark, he got up and went out to a deserted place, and there he prayed. And Simon and his companions hunted for him. When they found him, they said to him, “Everyone is searching for you.” He answered, “Let us go on to the neighbouring towns, so that I may proclaim the message there also; for that is what I came out to do.” And he went throughout Galilee, proclaiming the message in their synagogues and casting out demons… Read more »

Let us live as beloved children – Bishop Galea‑Curmi

Mass for members of the Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice Foundation

  St. Publius Chapel, Rabat

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Mal-Knisja kollha aħna niċċelebraw il-Festa tal-Magħmudija tal-Mulej proprju qrib ħafna l-Milied u l-Epifanija. Tista’ tidher stramba li hi daqshekk viċin, għax Ġesù ma tgħammidx meta kien tarbija, bħalma hu l-każ tagħna li tgħammidna meta konna żgħar ħafna, u għalhekk il-Magħmudija marbuta mat-twelid.

Rabta mill-qrib

Imma  hemm raġuni għaliex aħna niċċelebrawha f’daż-żmien, u hemm rabta kbira bejn il-Magħmudija, u l-Milied u l-Epifanija… Read more »

Readings of the day

First Reading: 1 Samuel 1:9-20
Psalm: 1 Samuel 2:1,4-5,6-7,8abcd

Gospel: Mark 1:21b-28

In those days, when the sabbath came, he entered the synagogue at Capernaum and taught. They were astounded at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. Just then there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit, and he cried out, “What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? … Read more »

Pope baptizes 20 children: Now they have the meaning of life

Feast of the Baptism of the Lord – Holy Mass and administration of the Sacrament of Baptism to some new-born Babies

  Sistine Chapel, the Vatican

Message of Pope Leo XIV

Carrying on a 45-year-old tradition, Pope Leo XIV baptized 20 children of Vatican employees in the Sistine Chapel. Following in the footsteps of his predecessors, the administration of the Sacrament took place during a Mass on the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord.

A new sign of forgiveness

In his homily, the Pope reflected on God entering history by coming down to earth to “meet each of us with an open and humble heart.” He wants to meet our gaze and reveal the Word of salvation to us, that is Jesus Christ… Read more »
