Welcoming the new into our lives – Bishop Galea‑Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa, Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Għaliex id-dixxipli ta’ Ġwanni u d-dixxipli tal-Fariżej isumu, u d-dixxipli tiegħek ma jsumux?” (Mark 2:18). Din id-domanda għamluha lil Ġesù d-dixxipli ta’ Ġwanni u l-Fariżej, u tidher domanda sempliċi. Imma, fil-fatt, hija domanda li turi iktar minn hekk – għax turi verament x’inhi r-relazzjoni ma’ Alla, xi tfisser il-fidi, u anke l-prattika reliġjuża bħalma hi dik li ssum.

It-tweġiba ta’ Ġesù lilhom li kienu mdorrijin, bħala Lhud, b’din l-ispiritwalità – jiġifieri li hemm mumenti meta jsumu, u jsumu fis-sens li tissaħħaħ ir-relazzjoni ma’ Alla għax id-dixxiplina tagħhom infushom tgħinhom biex ikunu aktar miftuħin għal Alla – ir-risposta ta’ Ġesù hi billi jgħidilhom xi ħaġa li min kien midħla tat-Testment il-Qadim, bħalma kienu ħafna minnhom, fehem x’qed jgħid… Read more »

A moment of public witness – Bishop Galea‑Curmi

Homily on the second Sunday of the year

The Parish Church of the Annunciation, Balzan

Message by Bishop Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29). Today’s Gospel places us by the River Jordan, where John the Baptist speaks publicly and decisively. John does not speak in vague terms. He points, he names, he bears witness.  This is important, because faith is never only private. True faith always reaches a moment when it must be spoken, and witnessed before others… Read more »

The Lord came to destroy the devil, not with arrogance but with humility – The Archbishop

Mass on the closing of the celebrations commemorating the 1800th anniversary of the birth of St Lawrence

The Parish Church of St Lawrence, Birgu

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

L-Evanġelju  li għadna kemm qrajna, jagħtina ħjiel fuq min hu Ġesù. Ġwanni l-Battista jsejjaħlu “Il-ħaruf ta’ Alla, li jneħħi d-dnub tad-dinja”, u fit-tmiem l-Evanġelju li għadna kemm qrajna, jinsisti: “dan hu l-Iben t’Alla, li ġej jgħammed bl-Ispirtu s-Santu” (ara Ġw 1:29-34). Din hija l-fidi li ħaddan San Lawrenz u li qed [GS1]  twasslu biex jagħti ħajtu. Jekk Ġwanni huwa xhud tal-identità ta’ Ġesù, u tal-qawwa tiegħu, hekk ukoll San Lawrenz… Read more »

“Qabel konna missjunarji f’pajjiżhom issa nistgħu nwasslulhom lil Ġesù f’pajjiżna” – hekk stqarr l-Arċisqof Charles Scicluna meta dalgħodu kien qed jiġi intervistat minn Christine Delicata waqt il-programm Għal Kulħadd fuq RTK103.

Enfasizza li ma nistgħux nibqgħu fil-fosdqa tagħna, “għandna bżonn niltaqgħu ma’ kulturi differenti, u dal-kulturi qegħdin fin-nies li qed jiġu f’pajjiżna, aktar minn 20% tal-popolazzjoni tagħna ġejja minn kulturi differenti u rridu nilħquhom.”

Qal li hemm komunitajiet sħaħ li qed jieħdu ħsiebna u semma diversi oqsma fosthom tas-saħħa, ospitalità, turiżmu u oħrajn… Read more »

Jesus knows which medicine to give us for our sins – The Archbishop

Sunday Mass

  The President's Palace Chapel, Ħ'Attard

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Id-domanda fundamentali li jpoġġi quddiemna dan l-Evanġelju li għadna kemm smajna hija: min hu Ġesù? Xi ħadd jiltaqa’ miegħek li ma jafux u jgħidlek: ‘Min hu Ġesù?’ San Ġwann qed jipprova jispjegalna l-identità ta’ Ġesù. “Araw il-Ħaruf ta’ Alla” (Ġw 1:29). Għaliex meta jara lil dan il-mastrudaxxa ta’ Nazaret, magħruf bħala bin Ġużeppi u bin Marija ta’ Nazaret, ma jgħidx: ‘Dan hu raġel veru sew.’ Imma jgħid “il-Ħaruf ta’ Alla”… Read more »

John the Baptist saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. He is the one of whom I said, ‘A man is coming after me who ranks ahead of me because he existed before me.’ I did not know him, but the reason why I came baptising with water was that he might be made known to Israel.”

John testified further, saying, “I saw the Spirit come down like a dove from the sky and remain upon him… Read more »
