Homily of Pope Leo XIV

Dear brothers and sisters,

In one of the Scripture passages we have just heard, the Apostle Paul refers to himself as “the least of the apostles” (1 Cor 15:9). He considers himself unworthy of this title because he had once been a persecutor of the Church of God. Nevertheless, he is not a prisoner of that past, but rather a “prisoner in the Lord” (Eph 4:1)… Read more »

Mass on the solemnity of the St Paul's conversion

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Pawlu jgħaddi minn esperjenza ta’ dawl qawwi proprju f’nofsinhar; dawl eċċezzjonali, straordinarju, u sopranaturali. Il-moħħ u l-qalb tagħna llum imorru lejn Damasku fis-Sirja; u f’din il-festa, b’mod speċjali din is-sena, nitolbu ħafna għal dan il-pajjiż.

Damasku hija waħda mill-eqdem bliet fl-istorja taċ-ċiviltà umana. U mhux biss din il-festa tgħaqqadna ma’ Damasku, għax huwa l-post fejn saret il-konverżjoni tal-Appostlu Missierna; imma anke x-xbieha qaddisa tal-Madonna ta’ Damaxxena ta’ Damasku, li aħna nqimu fil-Belt Valletta, u li waslet Malta permezz ta’ familji Griegi-Kattoliċi, li ġew mal-Kavallieri fl-1530… Read more »

Readings of the day

First Reading: Isaiah 8:23b – 9:3
Psalm: 26 (27):1,4,13-14
Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 1:10-13,17

Gospel: Matthew 4:12-23

When Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew to Galilee. He left Nazareth and went to live in Capernaum by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali, that what had been said through Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled: Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, the way to the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles, the people who sit in darkness have seen a great light, on those dwelling in a land overshadowed by death light has arisen.”

From that time on, Jesus began to preach and say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” As he was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter, and his brother Andrew, casting a net into the sea; they were fishermen… Read more »

Il-messaġġ tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Fl-ittra li smajna lill-Galatin, Pawlu juża din l-espressjoni: Dak li darba ppersegwitana issa qed iħabbar il-liġi li darba hu ried jeqred. (ara Gal:1:23) U min qal hekk, jgħid, San Pawl faħħar lil Alla minħabba fija.

Aħna ltqajna biex nagħmlu l-istess. Iltqajna biex infaħħru lil Alla minħabba San Pawl… Read more »

His choice – our response – Bishop Galea‑Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa, Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Dak li ttradieh” (Mk 3:19). Kemm jispiċċa b’mod ikrah illum l-Evanġelju b’din il-lista tal-appostli: tnax-il appostlu, u l-aħħar wieħed, Ġuda l-Iskarjota, “dak li ttradieh”! Mhix sabiħa meta int qed tagħmel il-lista tal-appostli, proprju meta Ġesù għażilhom, u tispiċċa “dak li ttradieh”.

Ħa naraw x’għamel Ġesù hawnhekk, u anke mbagħad il-missjoni li tahom lil dawn l-appostli, u x’ifisser dan għalina llum… Read more »
