The Gospel of the day: 28th July

Readings of the day

First Reading: Exodus 32:15-24.30-34
Psalm: 105 (106):19-20,21-22,23

Gospel: Matthew 13:31-35

In those days, Jesus put before the crowd another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in his field; it is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.”

He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed in with three measures of flour until all of it was leavened.”

Jesus told the crowds all these things in parables; without a parable he told them nothing. This was to fulfill what had been spoken through the prophet: “I will open my mouth to speak in parables; I will proclaim what has been hidden from the foundation of the world.”  Read more »

Jesus teaches us not to think only of ourselves – The Archbishop

Mass on the Jubilee of Grandparents and the Elderly

The Parish Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Id-dixxippli jitqanqlu mill-eżempju ta’ Ġesù. Kif ngħidu bil-Malti, il-kelma tqanqal imma l-eżempju jkaxkar. Ġesù kien qiegħed xi mkien jitlob, bħalma kien imdorri jagħmel. L-Evanġelju jgħidilna li kien jibda l-ġurnata kmieni filgħodu jinġabar fit-talb u d-dixxippli kienu jinnutaw x’jagħmel l-Imgħallem. “Wieħed mid-dixxippli tiegħu qallu: ‘Għallimna nitolbu’” (Lq 11:1).

Ħa tkun din it-talba tagħna wkoll illum. Lil Ġesù nitolbuh jgħallimna nitolbu… Read more »

It’s not about who is first, but about who loves until the end – Bishop Galea‑Curmi

Mass on the feast of St. James

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Ordna li dawn iż-żewġ uliedi joqogħdu wieħed fuq il-lemin tiegħek u l-ieħor fuq ix-xellug fis-Saltna tiegħek” (Mt 20:21). Din hija t-talba li omm għamlet lil Ġesù, u nifhmuha! Kienet tiġi omm Ġakbu u Ġwanni – kellha din l-ambizzjoni għal uliedha. U nifhmu, għaliex bħala omm riedet l-aħjar għal uliedha; anke jekk ma kinux għadhom tfal, imma riedet tagħtihom l-aħjar.

Imma Ġesù fehem li din l-ambizzjoni, għalkemm ħierġa verament mill-imħabba, ma taqbilx mas-Saltna t’Alla… Read more »

Here is your Mother – The Archbishop

Mass on the eve of the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows

The Parish Church of Our Lady of Sorrows, St Paul's Bay

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

“Mara, hawn hu ibnek” (Ġw 19:26).  Din il-kelma ta’ Gesù, illum nixtieq nimmaġinah, lil ommu, mhux biss jafdana f’idejha, imma jgħidilna wkoll, u jgħidilna fiex aħna. “Hawn hu ibnek, hawn hi bintek, hawn uliedek. Uliedek inkwetati minħabba n-nuqqas ta’ paċi fid-dinja. Uliedek li qegħdin jgħixu dan il-wied ta’ dmugħ u għandhom bżonn kelma ta’ tama.” Meta aħna nsellmulha fl-antifona b’talba sabiħa tas-Salve Regina, lill-Madonna nitolbuha tħares lejna b’din il-ħarsa ħelwa ta’ ħniena, tgħinna, lilna, li qegħdin ngħaddu minn dan il-wied tad-dmugħ u bil-ħarsa tagħha wkoll, tindikallna l-ħarsa ħanina ta’ Binha Ġesù… Read more »
