Don’t play with fire – Bishop Galea‑Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Tilgħabx man-nar”. Dan huwa parir li ħafna minna żgur smajnieh, xi mument jew ieħor, f’ħajjitna. Hawn min iżid, jgħidlek: jekk tilgħab man-nar, fl-aħħar tinħaraq! Hu dan wieħed mill-messaġġi li jagħti Ġesù fl-Evanġelju llum f’din is-silta li għadna kif smajna. Hawnhekk Ġesù jitkellem darbtejn fuq dak li għalina hu “okkażjoni ta’ dnub” (Mt 5:29.30), u jgħid li rridu mal-ewwel nieħdu azzjoni biex ma nħallux it-tentazzjoni tegħlibna… Read more »

135 University of Malta academics raise concerns on consultation document on euthanasia

The introduction of physician-assisted suicide and euthanasia in Malta would further undermine the provision of palliative care services which are currently inadequate, and would contradict the ongoing national efforts to prevent suicide. Instead, greater investment must be directed towards strengthening palliative care and avoiding overtreatment.

These are among the key concerns raised by a multidisciplinary group of academics from the University of Malta in a position paper in response to the consultation document published last month by the Maltese Government on the introduction of “assisted voluntary euthanasia”… Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 13th June

Readings of the day

First Reading:  2 Cor 4:7-15
Psalm:  115(116):10-11,15-16,17-18

Gospel: Matthew 5:27-32

Jesus said to his disciples: “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that every one who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and throw it away; it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away; it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell.

“It was also said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.’ But I say to you that every one who divorces his wife, unless the marriage is unlawful, makes her an adulteress; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.”
