It’s not tit for tat – Bishop Galea‑Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Bil-Malti hemm espressjoni li tgħid: “patta parapatta”, li tfisser li wieħed ipatti b’azzjoni ħażina għal azzjoni ħażina li jkun irċieva. Tixbah ħafna dak li jgħid Ġesù llum fl-Evanġelju meta jikkwota espressjoni li kienu jużaw qablu, ħafna żmien qablu: “Għajn b’għajn u sinna b’sinna” (Mt 5:38). Meta narawha hekk illum, nifhmu li int għal dak li tirċievi, tpatti bl-istess mod – jekk xi ħadd lilek insultak, tinsultah; jekk xi ħadd weġġgħek, tweġġgħu; jekk xi ħadd għamillek azzjoni ħażina, inti tagħmillu azzjoni ħażina… Read more »

Sports fosters a culture of fraternity and a means of building peace – Pope at Angelus

Mass on the Soelemnity of Holy Trinity and Jubilee of Sport and Angelus

St Peter's Basilica and St Peter's Square, the Vatican

Dear brothers and sisters,

In the first reading we heard these words: “Thus says the wisdom of God: The Lord possessed me, the beginning of his ways, the forerunner of his prodigies of long ago … When the Lord established the heavens I was there … then was I beside him as his craftsman, and I was his delight day by day, playing before him all the while, playing on the surface of his earth; and I found delight in the human race” (Prov 8: 22, 27, 30-31) For Saint Augustine, the Trinity and wisdom are intimately connected… Read more »

Pope Leo on Jubilee of Sport: No one is born a champion or saint

In St. Peter’s Basilica in front of thousands of athletes of all levels, backgrounds and sports, Pope Leo XIV presided over Mass to close the Jubilee of Sport and celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity.

In his homily, the Pope reflected on how “unusual” the connection between the Trinity and sport might seem. However, he pointed out that since every good human activity reflects God’s infinite beauty in some way, “sport is certainly one of these.”

Sports, Pope Leo continued, can help us encounter God because they challenge “us to relate to others and with others, not only outwardly but also, and above all, interiorly.” If not, sport becomes “nothing more than an empty competition of inflated egos.”

Sports require giving

At sporting events the Italian word spectators use to cheer on athletes is “dai”, which literally means “to give”… Read more »

A mystery not of confusion, but of embrace – Bishop Galea-Curmi

Quddiesa fis-Solennità tat-Trinità Qaddisa bil-parteċipazzjoni ta’ 40 persuna minn pajjiżi tal-Mediterran, parteċipanti fin-network teoloġiku tal-Mediterran.
Ritratt: Arċidjoċesi ta’ Malta – Sarah Salafia

Il-festa, li qed niċċelebraw illum, tat-Trinità Qaddisa hija solennità importanti ħafna fil-ħajja tal-Knisja. Jekk naħsbu ftit, kull meta rroddu s-salib u f’diversi talbiet waqt il-quddies, dejjem qed nitkellmu fuq dan il-misteru kbir: li Alla huwa wieħed, imma f’Alla hemm tliet persuni: il-Missier u l-Iben u l-Ispirtu s-Santu… Read more »

In those days, Jesus said to his disciples: “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I say to you, do not resist an evildoer.

But if anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other also; and if anyone wants to sue you and take your coat, give your cloak as well; and if anyone forces you to go one mile, go also the second mile. Give to everyone who begs from you, and do not refuse anyone who wants to borrow from you.” Read more »
