The Gospel of the day: 10th May

Readings of the day

First Reading: Acts 9:31-42
Psalm: 115 (116):12-13,14-15,16-17

Gospel: John 6:60-69

In those days, when many of Jesus’ disciples heard him speaking about the bread of life, they said, “This teaching is difficult; who can accept it?” But Jesus, being aware that his disciples were complaining about it, said to them, “Does this offend you? Then what if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before?  … Read more »

Peace be with you, Pope Leo XIV

“Peace be with you” — these were the first words with which Pope Leo XIV greeted the faithful gathered in St Peter’s Square, and indeed the entire world, as he appeared for the first time on the central balcony of the Apostolic Palace.

In a calm yet resolute voice, the Successor of Peter invited each and every one of us “to be a synodal church, walking and always seeking peace, charity, closeness, especially to those who are suffering.” These words offer a clear indication that his pontificate will be marked by openness, compassion, and fidelity to the Gospel… Read more »

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Morru fid-dinja kollha, xandru l-Evanġelju lill-ħolqien kollu” (Mk 16:15). Huwa dan li jgħid Ġesù lill-ħdax illum fl-Evanġelju, u huwa dan li niċċelebraw fil-festa ta’ San Ġorġ Preca. San Ġorġ Preca kellu f’qalbu li jrid iwassal l-Evanġelju lil kulħadd, u fil-fatt, meta waqqaf is-Soċjeta tal-MUSEUM, is-Soċjeta tad-Duttrina Nisranija, ried proprju dan. L-inizjali tal-kelma MUSEUM ifissru: “Mgħallem, mhux li kien id-dinja kollha timxi wara l-Evanġelju tiegħek”… Read more »

Mass on the feast of St. George Preca

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

“Il-Mulej kien jaħdem magħhom” (Mk16:20). Kemm hi kelma ta’ faraġ din il-kelma mill-Evanġelju skont San Mark li qrajna fil-festa ta’ San Ġorġ Preca u li naqraw ukoll fl-10 ta’ Frar. Kienet idea sabiħa tal-Knisja, li l-Evanġelju li jinqara meta nfakkru l-miġja tal-Appostlu Missierna San Pawl, nerġgħu naqrawh ukoll fid-9 ta’ Mejju meta nfakkru lil San Ġorġ Preca.

Fl-Evanġelju l-Mulej qed jagħti missjoni speċjali lid-dixxipli tiegħu… Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 9th May

Saint George Preca, Priest and Founder of the Society of Christian Doctrine, M.U.S.E.U.M – Feast
Readings of the day

First Reading: Sirach 21:11-17,21 or 2 Timothy 2:1-11
Psalm: 119:33-42

Gospel: Mark 16:14a,15-20

Later Jesus appeared to the eleven themselves as they were sitting at the table; and he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the good news to the whole creation. The one who believes and is baptised will be saved; but the one who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: by using my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes in their hands, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. And they went out and proclaimed the good news everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by the signs that accompanied it… Read more »
