The Gospel of the day: 15th December

Readings of the day

First Reading: Numbers 24:2-7,15-17a
Psalm: 24 (25):4bc-5ab,6-7bc,8-9

Gospel: Matthew 21:23-27

In those days, Jesus entered the temple, and as he was teaching, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him and said, “By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?”

Jesus said to them, “I will also ask you one question; if you tell me the answer, then I will also tell you by what authority I do these things. Did the baptism of John come from heaven, or was it of human origin?” And they argued with one another, “If we say, “From heaven,’ he will say to us, “Why then did you not believe him?’ But if we say, “Of human origin,’ we are afraid of the crowd; for all regard John as a prophet.” So they answered Jesus, “We do not know.” And he said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things. ” Read more »

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Aħna u nippreparaw, b’entużjażmu anke b’ferħ l-istennija għall-Milied, ta’ min nilqgħu l-kelma li Ġwanni l-Battista jibgħat iwassal lil Ġesù: “Inti huwa dak li għandu jiġi, jew nistennew lil ħaddieħor?” (Mt 11:3) Ir-risposta, din id-darba, tkun fil-qalb tagħna. Aħna lil min qegħdin nistennew f’dan il-Milied? Min hu dak Alla għalina li se jitwieled minn Marija Verġni? Lesti nilqgħuh? Aħna ppreparati tajjeb biex nilqgħuh? … Read more »

A heart purified from prejudices – Bishop Galea‑Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa, Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Bil-Malti għandna espressjoni li tgħid: “Ma ġġibhiex żewġ magħhom!” U ngħiduha fuq min, tagħmel x’tagħmel, qatt ma tissoddisfah, qatt ma hu kuntent. Jekk hemm ix-xemx, għax hija x-xemx; jekk nieżla x-xita, jilmenta minħabba x-xita. Tagħmel x’tagħmel, u jkun x’ikun, dejjem mhux soddisfatt. Hawnhekk Ġesù qed jitkellem fuq din l-esperjenza, li aħna nistgħu nifhmu ħafna għax hija parti mill-ħajja tagħna. Qed jgħid fuq l-esperjenza tiegħu: Ġie Ġwanni l-Battista, li ma kienx jiekol u jixrob, u fuqu qalu: “għandu fih xitan”… Read more »
