The Gospel of the day: 30th September

Readings of he day

First Reading: Zechariah 8:20-23
Psalm: 86 (87):1-3,4-5,6-7

Gospel: Luke 9:51-56

When the days drew near for him to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem. And he sent messengers ahead of him. On their way they entered a village of the Samaritans to make ready for him; but they did not receive him, because his face was set toward Jerusalem. When his disciples James and John saw it, they said, “Lord, do you want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them?” But he turned and rebuked them. Then they went on to another village. As they were going along the road, someone said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.”

Turning our gaze to God – Bishop Galea‑Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

Hija festa sabiħa li nagħmlu llum lit-tliet arkanġli: Mikiel, Gabriel u Rafel. Dawn huma tliet arkanġli li jissemmew fl-Iskrittura, f’mumenti differenti u li, meta niftakru fihom, u meta nagħtu qima lilhom, qegħdin fil-fatt iwassluna biex inħarsu lejn Alla u nagħtu qima lilu, bħalma jagħmlu huma, u bħalma tlabna anke fis-Salm. Fil-fatt, juruna l-providenza kbira ta’ Alla. Jekk aħna nħarsu lejn dawn it-tlieta, wieħed wieħed, naraw li kull wieħed jagħtina messaġġ importanti li jdawwar ħarsitna lejn Alla… Read more »

Mass for the Jubilee of Disciplined Forces

  St John's Co-Cathedral, Valletta

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Ippermettuli nislet riflessjoni qasira, l-ewwel għalina personali mbagħad għalikom bħala korpi dixipplinati tal-pajjiż, mit-tliet ismijiet tal-Arkanġli li qed niċċelebraw illum.

Illum qegħdin nagħmlu l-festa, bħalma nagħmlu kull 29 ta’ Settembru, lill-Arkanġlu San Mikiel, l-Arkanġlu Gabrijel, u l-Arkanġlu Rafel. L-ismijiet tagħhom ifissru l-missjoni li Alla fdalhom. Mikiel ismu jfisser ‘min hu bħal Alla – Mikhael’, Gabrijel ifisser ‘il-qawwa ta’ Alla’ u Rafael ifisser ‘il-mediċina t’Alla’ jew  ‘Alla jfejjaq’… Read more »

Pope: Catechists accompany our faith journey throughout life

Mass on the occasion of the Jubilee of Catechists

  St Peter's Square, the Vatican

Homily by Pope Leo XIV

Dear brothers and sisters,

The words of Jesus convey to us how God sees the world, at every moment and in every place.  We heard in the Gospel (Lk 16:19-31) that his eyes observe a poor man and a rich man: seeing one dying of hunger and the other gorging himself in front of him, the elegant clothes of one and the sores of the other licked by dogs (cf. Lk 16:19-21).  But the Lord looks into the hearts of people, and through his eyes, we can also recognize one who is in need and one who is indifferent.  Lazarus is forgotten by the one right there before him, just beyond the doorway of his house, and yet God is close to him and remembers his name.  On the other hand, the man who lives in abundance is nameless, because he has lost himself by forgetting his neighbor.  He is lost in the thoughts of his heart: full of things and empty of love… Read more »

Għażiż Fr Paul, int u tibda uffiċċjalment din il-missjoni tiegħek bħala ragħaj ta’ din il-parroċċa ddedikata lil Alla, it-Trinità Qaddisa. Nawguralek li din il-Kelma t’ Alla li tħabbret fuqek illum ikollok l-umiltà, il-kuraġġ u l-għerf li tgħixha.

Ir-ragħaj it-tajjeb jagħti ħajtu għan-nagħaġ tiegħu. Inti li qed tagħti ħajtek bis-sinjal tal-ubbidjenza lejn is-superjuri tiegħek, lejn l-isqof, imma wkoll qed tilqa’ dan il-poplu li inti tiegħu ragħaj u hu qed jilqgħek bil-ferħ u anke b’tant disponibbiltà… Read more »

Two lives – one challenge – Bishop Galea‑Curmi

The Parish Church of the Annunciation, Balzan

In the parable of today’s Gospel, we are presented with two very different lives:

  • A rich man, clothed in purple and fine linen, who lived each day in luxury. He was not just rich; he was extravagantly rich, indifferent, self-absorbed. His life revolved around comfort and pleasure.
  • At his very gate lay Lazarus, a poor man, covered with sores, longing to eat the scraps that fell from the table…

The Archbishop during a religious profession: Sow love wherever you go

Church of Our Lady of Loreto, Tal-Pietà

Ritratt: Sr Michaela Paris L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

‘Kien imur jinxteħet ħdejn il-bieb ta’ daru.’ (Lq 16:20) Hekk jgħid Ġesù dwar dan il-fqir li kellu ġismu ġerħa waħda u li fir-rakkont tiegħu Ġesù jagħzel li jagħtih l-isem ta’ Lazzru.

Lazzru għal Ġesù kien isem għażiż għax kien l-isem ta’ wieħed mill-ħbieb għeżież tiegħu. Lazzru ħu Marija u ħu Marta kien wieħed min dawk li Ġesù kellu intimita` kbira magħhom u meta qed jirrakonta l-parabbola tal-għani u l-fqir, lill-fqir jagħtih isem; jagħtih l-isem tal-ħabib għażiż tiegħu, Lazzru… Read more »
