Disciples who overcome fear – Bishop Galea‑Curmi

Mass on the 19th Sunday of the year

The Parish Church of the Annunciation, Balzan

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Tibżgħu xejn” (Lq 12:32) Dan il-kliem Ġesù qalu lid-dixxipli tiegħu biex jagħmlilhom il-kuraġġ, u biex jifhmu li hu dak li jgħinhom jegħlbu l-biża’. U dil-kelma “tibżgħu xejn” hi kelma li kontinwament narawha fl-Iskrittura. Hawnhekk, f’dil-parroċċa ddedikata lil Marija Annunzjata, aħna midħla ħafna tar-rakkont tat-Tħabbira tal-Mulej meta l-anġlu Gabriel, kif jibda jkellem lil Marija, jgħidilha mal-ewwel “Tibżax, Marija” (Lq 1:30); u lil Ġużeppi wkoll, meta l-anġlu tal-Mulej ikellmu fi ġrajja oħra, jgħidlu “Xejn la tibża’” (Mt 1:20)… Read more »

Pope at Angelus: Invest the treasure of your life in love and mercy

Dear brothers and sisters, happy Sunday!

In today’s Gospel Jesus invites us to consider how we will invest the treasure that is our life (cf. Lk 12:32-48). He says: “Sell your possessions and give alms” (v. 33).

He exhorts us not to keep to ourselves the gifts that God has given us, but rather to use them generously for the good of others, especially those most in need of our help… Read more »

The Archbishop’s advice: let us not attach our hearts to wealth that passes away

Sunday Mass on the 19th Sunday of Ordinary Time

The Chapel of Our Lady of Ransom, Selmun

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Hemm kelma moderna – anzi, nistgħu ngħidu kelma li saret tal-moda – imma fil-verità hi antika ħafna. Ġesù jitkellem fuq dak li llum insejħulu accountability, jew il-kontabbiltà. Jitkellem dwar il-fatt li iżjed ma tingħatalek responsabbiltà, iżjed jippretendu kont mingħandek: “Għax lil min tawh ħafna, ifittxu li jieħdu ħafna mingħandu; u min ħallewlu ħafna f’idejh, iżjed jippretendu mingħandu” (Lq 12:48)… Read more »

The slaughter of the innocents in Gaza

Photo: Caritas Internationalis Message by Bishop Joseph Galea-Curmi

The Gospel of Matthew recounts a heart-wrenching event that darkens the early pages of the New Testament: the Massacre of the Innocents. Herod, feeling threatened by the birth of “a new king”, orders the killing of all male children under two in Bethlehem and its surroundings. It is a story of fear, power, and cruelty – and of the innocent caught in the crossfire of a tyrant’s ambitions.

In the last months, the world has witnessed a chilling horror in Gaza, where thousands of innocent lives – many of them children – have been brutally extinguished… Read more »
