Gospel: John 20:1-2,11-18

On the first day of the week, Mary of Magdala came to the tomb early in the morning, while it was still dark, and saw the stone removed from the tomb. We welcome his signs – Bishop Galea‑Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Nisel ħażin u infidil” (Mt 12:39). Dan hu l-kliem li, kif rajna fl-Evanġelju skont San Mattew, Ġesù jgħid lill-kittieb u lill-Fariżej. Hu kliem iebes dan, kliem aħrax! Speċjalment meta tara t-talba li għamlu huma, li għall-bidu tidher talba magħmula b’edukazzjoni: “Xtaqna kieku naraw sinjal mingħandek” (Mt 12:38).

Għaliex din ir-reazzjoni ta’ Ġesù? Għax, fil-fatt, jekk tara dan li jiġi qabel dis-silta minn San Mattew, tara li Ġesù kien għamel diversi sinjali… Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 21st July

Readings of the day

First Reading: Exodus 14:5-18
Psalm: 15:1-2,3-4,5-6

Gospel: Matthew 12:38-42

In those days, some of the scribes and Pharisees said to him, “Teacher, we wish to see a sign from you.” But he answered them, “An evil and adulterous generation asks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the sea monster, so for three days and three nights the Son of Man will be in the heart of the earth.  … Read more »

We condemn the destruction of innocent people – Bishop Galea‑Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Tikkundannaw lil min hu bla ħtija” (Mt 12:7). Dan hu l-kliem li jgħid Ġesù lill-Fariżej – hi akkuża li qed jagħmlilhom – meta huma għamlu lment fuq id-dixxipli tiegħu. Ġesù kien għaddej bil-mixi minn għalqa miżrugħa, u d-dixxipli tiegħu, billi ħadhom il-ġuħ, bdew jaqtgħu s-sbul mill-għalqa, u jikluh. U l-Fariżej ilmentaw ma’ Ġesù fuq dak li kienu qed jagħmlu d-dixxipli. Ma kienx minħabba li huma kienu qegħdin jaqtgħu s-sbul mill-għalqa u jikluh, għax dak kien permess mil-liġi Lhudija (Dewt 23:25), imma għax dan kien qed jagħmluh f’Jum is-Sibt… Read more »
