The best renewal starts from people’s heart – The Archbishop

Mass on the fifth Sunday of Lent

The Parish Church of Stella Maris, Tas-Sliema

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

“Arawni, sejjer nagħmel ħaġa ġdida, feġġet issa; għadkom ma ttendejtux? (Iż 44:19) Din il-mistoqsija tal-Profeta Iżaija, tagħtina ċavetta biex nifhmu dak li għamel Ġesù llum. F’dan il-ġojjel, fl-ewwel 11-il vers mill-kapitlu 8, uniku għall-Evanġelju ta’ Ġwanni; li l-istudjużi jgħidulna, li l-komunità Nisranija fl-ewwel sekli, kienet taf bih dan l-inċident ta’ Ġesù, u kienet l-insistenza tal-komunità, li jidħol f’wieħed mill-Evanġelji.

Għaliex il-komunità Nisranija, fehmet li din il-laqgħa ta’ Ġesù mal-adultera, kellha messaġġ qawwi u importanti? … Read more »

With wisdom and courage – Bishop Galea‑Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Kienu qegħdin ifittxu li joqtluh” (Ġw 7:1.25). Għal darbtejn, f’din is-silta qasira, nisimgħu li kien hemm min lil Ġesù kien qed ifittex li joqtlu. U aktar ’il quddiem jgħid li “fittxew jaqbduh” (Ġw 7:30). Fil-fatt, hawnhekk Ġesu qiegħed qalb nies li wħud minnhom aċċettawh, u wħud minnhom irrifjutawh. F’dal-kapitlu sebgħa ta’ San Ġwann, hemm ideat differenti fuq Ġesù. Hemm min jgħid li hu raġel tajjeb, hemm min jgħid li qed iwassal tagħlim tajjeb, hemm min jgħid li jrid iqarraq… Read more »

Readings of the day

First Reading: Jeremiah 11:18-20
Psalm: 7:2-3,9bc-10,11-12

Gospel: John 7:40-53

In those days, some in the crowd who heard these words of Jesus said, “This is truly the Prophet.” Others said, “This is the Messiah.” But others said, “The Messiah will not come from Galilee, will he? Does not scripture say that the Messiah will be of David’s family and come from Bethlehem, the village where David lived?” So a division occurred in the crowd because of him… Read more »
