A word that comes to pass – Bishop Galea‑Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Inżel, Mulej, qabel ma jmutli t-tifel!” (Ġw 4:49) Din kienet it-talba ħerqana li għamel l-uffiċċjal tas-sultan meta mar ifittex lil Ġesù u talbu biex imur id-dar ħalli jfejjaqlu lil ibnu. Kien fittex lil Ġesù għax ra li Ġesù seta’ jfejjaq lil ibnu.

Ħa nħarsu lejn dan l-uffiċċjal tas-sultan illi, bħal kull missier li jħobb ħafna lill-familja, għamel minn kollox għal ibnu, għax ibnu kien wasal fl-aħħar, u ried li Ġesù jmur biex fejqu… Read more »

Endless love – Bishop Galea‑Curmi

The Parish Church of the Annunciation, Balzan

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Nies midinba jilqa’ għandu, u jiekol magħhom!” (Lq 15:2). Dan kien l-ilment li l-Fariżej u l-kittieba kienu qed jagħmlu fuq Ġesù, kif naraw fl-Evanġelju tal-lum. U, b’risposta għal dan, Ġesù, flok jipprova jfehimhom b’ħafna kliem, jgħidilhom tliet parabboli, li minnhom hawnhekk għandna l-iktar waħda twila: il-parabbola li nsejħula ħafna drabi “tal-iben il-ħali”. Ġesù, fil-fatt, ried jikkonferma dak li qalu huma b’ilment, jiġifieri: li jilqa’ n-nies midinba u magħhom jiekol… Read more »

Psalm: 29 (30):2,4,5-6,11-12a,13b

Gospel: John 4:43-54

Mass on the fourth Sunday of Lent

The Parish Church of Our Lady of Lourdes, San Ġwann

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Ġesù jagħtina din il-parabbola sabiħa u l-ewwel nett jindirizzaha lill-Fariżej u l-kittieba. Dawn kienu tfixklu għax innutaw li kien jilqa’ għandu lill-midinbin u l-pubblikani. Ġesù ma jikkundannahomx lill-Fariżej; imma din il-parobbola sabiħa, jagħti lilhom u lilna bħala tagħlima importanti ħafna.

L-ewwel nett jifhem li l-midneb hu dak li jixtieq il-mewt tal-missier; għaliex li inti titlob il-wirt qabel ma’ missierek miet, donnok qed tgħidlu: ‘kemm se ddum ħaj? … Read more »

Psalm: 33 (34):2-3,4-5,6-7
Second Reading: 2 Corinthians 5:17-21

Gospel: Luke 15:1-3,11-32

Tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to listen to Jesus, but the Pharisees and scribes began to complain, saying, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”

So to them he addressed this parable. Then he said, “A man had two sons, and the younger son said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of your estate that should come to me.’ So the father divided the property between them.  … Read more »

The three greatest loves in our lives – The Archbishop

Mass following the pilgrimage with the statue of Christ the Redeemer

Minor Basilica of the Nativity of Mary, Senglea

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

F’dan il-jum għażiż, Ġesù joffrilna triq ħelwa imma fl-istess ħin iebsa: kif inkunu qrib is-Saltna ta’ Alla. Lil dak l-għaref tal-liġi li rrisponda tajjeb, qallu: “M’intix ’il bogħod mis-Saltna ta’ Alla” (Mk 12:34).

X’inhi t-triq li qed joffrilna r-Redentur llum? Hija triq tat-tliet imħabbiet li jinġabru bil-kelma għażiża: ‘mħabba’. L-ewwel triq hija li nitgħallem tassew, u mod ta’ vera, inħobb lili nnifsi… Read more »

EU bishops issue ‘Looking to Europe with Hope’ declaration

The Bishops of the European Union convened in Nemi (Italy) from 26 to 28 March 2025 for the spring Plenary Assembly of COMECE. Following a series of dialogue sessions with Vatican, EU and academic representatives, the bishops elaborated and issued the declaration “Looking to Europe with hope”. Representing the Church in Malta and Gozo at this assembly was Bishop Joseph Galea-Curmi.

The declaration

Deeply concerned about the dangerous spiral the world is descending into, the EU bishops urge the European Union to show leadership by acting as “united, trustful and integrating force for its neighbourhood and the world”… Read more »
