Pope at Angelus: Turn to Jesus with faith and hope

  Saint Peter's Square, Vatican City

Dear brothers and sisters, good Sunday!

Today the Gospel of the liturgy (Mk 10:46-52) tells us about Jesus who cures a man from blindness. His name is Bartimaeus, but the crowd in the street ignore him: he is a poor beggar. Those people do not have eyes for the blind man; they leave him, they ignore him. No caring gaze, no feeling of compassion… Read more »

Questions that make us think – Bishop Galea‑Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Ġesù kien jgħallem u juri lin-nies kif għandhom jgħixu, imma kultant Ġesù mhux biss kien jgħid dan, imma kien jagħmel mistoqsijiet. Fil-fatt, ħaġa li tolqtok hi meta tara n-numru ta’ mistoqsijiet li Ġesù kien jagħmel biex iġiegħel lin-nies jaħsbu. U hawn, fl-Evanġelju tal-lum, għandna żewġ mistoqsijiet li Ġesù jagħmel lin-nies. L-ewwel mistoqsija: “…iż-żmien ta’ issa kif ma tafux tfissruh?” (Lq 12:56) U t-tieni mistoqsija: “U għala ma tiġġudikawx intom stess x’inhu s-sewwa?” (Lq 12:57)

L-ewwel mistoqsija li għamel Ġesù hi għaliex ilmenta man-nies kif huma kienu kapaċi jaraw it-temp u jgħidu hix ġejja x-xita jew hux se tagħmel is-sħana – fil-fatt jgħid “tafu taqraw wiċċ is-sema u wiċċ l-art ukoll” (Lq 12:56) – imbagħad jgħid: “mela ż-żmien ta’ issa kif ma tafux tfissruh?” Ġesù qed jgħid: intom kapaċi taqraw it-temp, u taraw hux se jagħmel maltemp jew hix se tkun is-sħana, imma ż-żmien ta’ issa le… Read more »

A heart full of love – Bishop Galea-Curmi

The chapel in the Convent of the Augustine Sisters Servants of Jesus and Mary

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Bilqiegħda mal-ġenb tat-triq” (Mk 10:46). Dan hu li naqraw fl-Evanġelju skont San Mark, fuq dan il-bniedem li kien għama u kien ukoll tallab, li kien bilqiegħda mal-ġenb tat-triq kif kien għaddej Ġesù, flimkien ma’ “kotra kbira ta’ nies” (Mk 10:46). Dal-bniedem kien qiegħed hemmhekk qisu mwarrab, filwaqt li kienu għaddejjin f’din il-mixja, Ġesù, id-dixxipli u nies. Jien nixtieq li nħarsu lejn dawn it-tlieta: lejn dan il-bniedem għama, lejn il-folla tan-nies, u lejn Ġesù, u naraw x’jgħallmuna għall-ħajja tagħna… Read more »

Psalm: 125(126): 1-2ab,2cd-3,4-5,6
Second Reading: Hebrews 5:1-6

Gospel: Mark 10:46-52

In those days, as Jesus, his disciples and a large crowd were leaving Jericho, Bartimaeus son of Timaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the roadside. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”

Many sternly ordered him to be quiet, but he cried out even more loudly, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” Jesus stood still and said, “Call him here.” And they called the blind man, saying to him, “Take heart; get up, he is calling you.” So throwing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus.  … Read more »
