Pope at Angelus: Faith is not true if based on our prejudices

  Saint Peter's Square, the Vatican

Dear brothers and sisters, happy Sunday!

Today the Gospel of the liturgy (Jn 6:41-51) tells us about the reaction of the Judeans to the statement of Jesus, who says: “I have come down from heaven” (Jn 6:38). They are scandalized.

They murmur among themselves: “Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? … Read more »

How beautiful it is that we believe! – Bishop Galea‑Curmi

Parish Church of the Annunciation, Balzan

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Kemm hu sabiħ li aħna nemmnu! Dan hu li tgħidilna l-Kelma ta’ Alla llum u tħeġġiġna biex nagħrfu s-sbuħija tal-fidi tagħna, kif ukoll is-sejħa biex b’responsabbiltà ngħixu din il-fidi fil-ħajja ta’ kuljum.

Nixtieq li nħarsu lejn il-Kelma ta’ Alla u naraw tliet messaġġi li tagħtina din il-Kelma, marbuta mas-sbuħija tal-fidi tagħna.

Min jemmen għandu l-għajnuna ta’ Alla

L-ewwel messaġġ: min jemmen għandu l-għajnuna ta’ Alla u jagħraf din l-għajnuna… Read more »

Everlasting life doesn’t begin with death, it starts now – The Archbishop

  Dar tal-Madonna tal-Mellieħa

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Aħna u naqraw dan il-kapitlu sabiħ mill-Evanġelju ta’ San Ġwann, il-kapitlu 6, nibdew nisimgħu tagħrif importanti dwar min hu Ġesù. L-ewwel ħaġa li niltaqgħu magħha hi l-identità tiegħu bħala dak li niżel mis-sema, xi ħaġa li min kien jaf lill-familja tiegħu ta’ Nazaret ma setax jifhimha: “Lil missieru u ’l ommu ma nafuhomx? Mela kif qed jgħid, ‘Jiena nżilt mis-sema’?” (Ġw 6:42)… Read more »

The Sunday Gospel: 11th August

Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Readings of the day

First Reading: 1 Kings 19:4-8
Psalm: 33(34):2-3,4-5,6-7,8-9
Second Reading: Ephesians 4:30–5:2

Gospel: John 6:41-51

The Jews murmured about him because he said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven,” and they said, “Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph? Do we not know his father and mother? Then how can he say, ‘I have come down from heaven’?” Jesus answered and said to them, “Stop murmuring among yourselves. No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draw him, and I will raise him on the last day. It is written in the prophets: ‘They shall all be taught by God.’

Everyone who listens to my Father and learns from him comes to me. Not that anyone has seen the Father except the one who is from God; he has seen the Father. Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life.

Your ancestors ate the manna in the desert, but they died; this is the bread that comes down from heaven so that one may eat it and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.” Read more »
