Pope at Audience: Let us ask ourselves inwardly – Am I consistent?

Dear brothers and sisters, good morning!

We are continuing these catecheses speaking about apostolic zeal, that is, what the Christian feels in order to carry out the proclamation of Jesus Christ. And today I would like to present another great example of apostolic zeal: we have spoken about Saint Francis Xavier, Saint Paul, the apostolic zeal of the great zealots; today we will talk about one – Italian, but who went to China: Matteo Ricci… Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 1st June

Readings of the day

First Reading: Sir 42:15-26
Psalm: 32 (33):2-3,4-5,6-7,8-9

Gospel: Mk 10:46-52

In those days, as Jesus together with his disciples and a large crowd were leaving Jericho, Bartimaeus son of Timaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the roadside. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Many sternly ordered him to be quiet, but he cried out even more loudly, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”

Jesus stood still and said, “Call him here.” And they called the blind man, saying to him, “Take heart; get up, he is calling you.” So throwing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus. Then Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?” The blind man said to him, “My teacher, let me see again.” Jesus said to him, “Go; your faith has made you well.” Immediately he regained his sight and followed him on the way… Read more »

The church has a mother – Bishop Galea-Curmi

Kien il-Papa Franġisku li ried li l-għada ta’ Għid il-Ħamsin tiġi ċċelebrata t-tifkira ta’ Marija Omm il-Knisja u Xbieha tal-Knisja. Għaliex proprju l-għada ta’ Għid il-Ħamsin? Għax ilbieraħ aħna ċċelebrajna t-twelid tal-Knisja, u llum l-Papa jrid li niftakru li din il-Knisja għandha omm – Marija. Marija hija Omm il-Knisja u xbieha tal-Knisja.

Kienu diversi qaddisin tul is-snin li sejħu lil Marija “Omm il-Knisja”, u kien il-Papa Pawlu VI, waqt il-Konċilju Vatikan II, li ried li hi jkollha dan it-titlu speċjali: Marija Omm il-Knisja… Read more »

Visitation of the Virgin Mary – Feast
Readings of the day

First Reading: Zephania 3:14-18
Psalm: 12:2-6

Gospel: Luke 1:39-56

In those days Mary set out and went with haste to a Judean town in the hill country, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the child leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And why has this happened to me, that the mother of my Lord comes to me? For as soon as I heard the sound of your greeting, the child in my womb leaped for joy. And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her by the Lord.”

And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked with favour on the lowliness of his servant… Read more »

A dialogue of love – Bishop Galea-Curmi

Photo by Jasmine Carter L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Għandna fl-Evanġelju llum dan id-djalogu sabiħ bejn Ġesù u Xmun Pietru. Hawnhekk qegħdin fejn il-baħar ta’ Tiberija, meta Ġesù deher għat-tielet darba, wara l-qawmien tiegħu mill-mewt, lid-dixxipli tiegħu. Dawn kienu għamlu lejl sħiħ jistadu u ma qabdu xejn, u Ġesù qalilhom: “waddbu x-xibka n-naħa tal-lemin tad-dgħajsa, u ssibu” (Ġw 21:6). U għamlu hekk u qabdu ħafna ħut… Read more »

Psalm: 49 (50):5-6,7-8,14 & 23

Gospel: Mark 10:28-31

In those days, Peter began to say to him, “Look, we have left everything and followed you.” Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields, for my sake and for the sake of the good news, who will not receive a hundredfold now in this age—houses, brothers and sisters, mothers and children, and fields, with persecutions—and in the age to come eternal life. But many who are first will be last, and the last will be first.” Read more »
