The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

San Kalċedonju kien wieħed mill-martri tal-ewwel żminijiet tal-Knisja. Ma nafux dettalji fuqu ħlief li kien martri, imma nafu bih għax il-Papa Benedittu XIV kien ta r-relikwa tiegħu – il-korp li fuqu kien hemm miktub “Calcedonius in pace” – lill-Ġiżwiti li kienu hawnhekk f’dan il-post. Għalhekk hawn din id-devozzjoni speċjali lejh. Imbagħad minn hawn xterdet id-devozzjoni fi Sqallija, l-ewwel f’Palermo fejn ittieħdet ukoll relikwa tiegħu, u f’postijiet oħra fi Sqallija u fl-Italja… Read more »

Pope at Angelus: One cannot do good by hastily destroying what is bad

  Saint Peter's Square, Vatican

Dear brothers and sisters, buongiorno!

Today’s Gospel offers us the parable of the wheat and the weeds (cf. Mt 13:24-43). A farmer, who has sown good seed in his field, discovers that an enemy by night has sown darnel in it, a plant that looks very similar to wheat, but is a weed.

In this way, Jesus talks about our world, which in effect is like a large field, where God sows wheat and the evil one sows darnel, and therefore good and bad grow together… Read more »

Among the wheat and rye – Bishop Galea-Curmi

  Parish Church, Balzan

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Mingħajr xi parabbola ma kienx ikellimhom” (Mt 13:34). Dan hu li naqraw illum fl-Evanġelju skont San Mattew, fejn insibu lil Ġesù jgħid tliet parabboli differenti, li għandhom ħafna x’jgħidulna għall-ħajja tagħna. Nistedinkom biex inħarsu lejn xi punti li joħorġu b’mod ċar ħafna minn din il-Kelma ta’ Alla.

Niddistingwu t-tajjeb mill-ħażin

Il-parabbola li jirrakkonta Ġesù tal-qamħ u s-sikrana turina li fil-ħajja tagħna jeżisti t-tajjeb u jeżisti l-ħażin… Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 24th July

Readings of the day

First Reading: Exodus 14:5-18
Psalm: 15:1-2,3-4,5-6

Gospel: Matthew 12:38-42

In those days, some of the scribes and Pharisees said to him, “Teacher, we wish to see a sign from you.” But he answered them, “An evil and adulterous generation asks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the sea monster, so for three days and three nights the Son of Man will be in the heart of the earth.

The people of Nineveh will rise up at the judgement with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the proclamation of Jonah, and see, something greater than Jonah is here! The queen of the South will rise up at the judgement with this generation and condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth to listen to the wisdom of Solomon, and see, something greater than Solomon is here!

“Give your life and soul to those who wish you well” – The Archbishop

Mass on the 16th Sunday in Ordinary Time

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Ġesù jkompli jfissrilna l-parabboli li jagħti hu stess u jkompli jkellimna wkoll b’riferiment għad-dinja tal-agrikoltura. Jerġa’ jsemmi bħalma smajna l-Ħadd li għadda wkoll, iż-żerriegħa.

Waħda mill-affarijiet li forsi tolqotna llum hija d-distinzjoni bejn iż-żerriegħa t-tajba u ż-żerriegħa l-ħażina; il-qamħ u s-sikrana, imma wkoll iċ-ċokon taż-żerriegħa tal-mustarda. Il-Mulej jagħtina żewġ parabboli li jfissru li s-saltna t’Alla tibda fiċ-ċokon, fl-umiltà u fil-modestja… Read more »
