Gospel: Luke 12:35-38

In those days, Jesus told his disciples: “Be dressed for action and have your lamps lit; be like those who are waiting for their master to return from the wedding banquet, so that they may open the door for him as soon as he comes and knocks.

Blessed are those slaves whom the master finds alert when he comes; truly I tell you, he will fasten his belt and have them sit down to eat, and he will come and serve them. If he comes during the middle of the night, or near dawn, and finds them so, blessed are those slaves.”

Pope at Angelus: What image do I carry inside myself?

  Saint Peter's Square, The Vatican

Dear brothers and sisters, buongiorno!

The Gospel of today’s Liturgy tells us about some pharisees who join with the Herodians to set a trap for Jesus. They were always trying to set traps for Him. They go to Him and ask: “Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?” (Mt 22:17). It is a ruse: if Jesus legitimizes the tax, He places Himself on the side of a political power that is ill-supported by the people, whereas if He says not to pay it, He can be accused of rebellion against the empire… Read more »

Mass on World Missions Day

The Parish Church of St Paul, Rabat

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Mgħallem, aħna nafu li inti raġel tħobb is-sewwa u li t-triq ta’ Alla tgħallimha kif tassew hi bla ma tħabbel rasek minn ħadd, għax int lejn wiċċ ħadd ma tħares” (Mt 22:16). Dan il-kliem jgħiduh id-dixxipli tal-Fariżej ma’ xi Erodjani lil Ġesù llum fl-Evanġelju. Jekk tieqaf hawn, tgħid: dawn għandhom verament idea tajba ta’ Ġesù, għax qed jgħidu fuqu tliet affarijiet tassew sbieħ – li jħobb is-sewwa, li jgħallem it-triq ta’ Alla u jgħallimha kif inhi, u ma jħares lejn wiċċ ħadd… Read more »
