Pope to Workers’ Association: Workplaces must be safe for employees

Pope Francis meets with the ANMIL Workers Association  (VATICAN MEDIA Divisione Foto)

Workplaces must be safe for workers, and those workers must be cared for and protected, underscored Pope Francis on Monday morning as he received members of the Italian Association for Injured Workers (ANMIL) in the Vatican.

While applauding the Association for its efforts to promote safety in the workplace and support victims of work accidents and their families, the Holy Father highlighted employers’ great responsibility, while decrying when corners are cut for profit, or when one tries to clear one’s conscience or image with charity work… Read more »

Document reveals names of 3,200 Jewish people protected by Church during Nazi regime

A document in the archives of the Pontifical Biblical Institute holds the names of over 3,000 Jewish people who took shelter in Catholic institutions in Rome during Nazi persecution. The Hebrew Community of Rome and the International Holocaust Research Institute examined the document and rediscovered this list that was considered lost.

CLAUDIO PROCACCIA
Director, Jewish Community of Rome
It was found in the forgotten papers of the Pontifical Biblical Institute, which did not have a proper archivist and, therefore, this study, for a number of reasons that are still not entirely clear, was completely forgotten… Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 12th September

Readings of the day

First Reading: Colossians 2:6-15
Psalm: 144 (145):1-2,8-9,10-11

Gospel: Luke 6:12-19

During those days Jesus+ went out to the mountain to pray; and he spent the night in prayer to God. And when day came, he called his disciples and chose twelve of them, whom he also named apostles: Simon, whom he named Peter, and his brother Andrew, and James, and John, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James son of Alphaeus, and Simon, who was called the Zealot, and Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.

He came down with them and stood on a level place, with a great crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea, Jerusalem, and the coast of Tyre and Sidon. They had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases; and those who were troubled with unclean spirits were cured. And all in the crowd were trying to touch him, for power came out from him and healed all of them.

Pope at Angelus Help him understand where he has erred

  Saint Peter's Square, The Vatican

Dear brothers and sisters, buongiorno!

Today the Gospel speaks to us about fraternal correction (cf. Mt 18:15-20), which is one of the highest expressions of love, and also one of the most demanding, because it is not easy to correct others. When a brother in faith wrongs you, then you, without rancour, help him, correct him: help by correcting… Read more »

Għax aħna maħbubin minn Alla, għandna wkoll ngħixu din l-imħabba li hu jqiegħed fina u nuruha mal-oħrajn, speċjalment dawk li għandhom l-aktar bżonn, l-ifqar fost il-fqar… Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 11th September

Readings of the day

First Reading: Colossians 1:24 – 2:3
Psalm: 61 (62):6-7,9

Gospel: Luke 6:6-11

On another sabbath Jesus entered the synagogue and taught, and there was a man there whose right hand was withered. The scribes and the Pharisees watched him to see whether he would cure on the sabbath, so that they might find an accusation against him.

Even though he knew what they were thinking, he said to the man who had the withered hand, “Come and stand here.” He got up and stood there. Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you, is it lawful to do good or to do harm on the sabbath, to save life or to destroy it?” After looking around at all of them, he said to him, “Stretch out your hand.” He did so, and his hand was restored. But they were filled with fury and discussed with one another what they might do to Jesus.  Read more »

Mass on the 23rd Sunday of Ordinary Time

The Church of Marija Regina, Marsa

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Il-Mulej Ġesù f’dan il-Ħadd ta’ matul is-sena qiegħed jistedinna biex nieħdu ħsieb xulxin u jagħtina l-eżempju ta’ meta wieħed minna jiżbalja u kif għandu jkun l-atteġġjament tagħna. Hu  jagħtina suġġeriment li nimxu bil-kalma u bil-mod. Jgħidilna: “Mur sibu waħdu u widdbu. Jekk imbagħad ma jismax ħu żewġ aħwa miegħek u jekk ma jismax mur għand il-ġemgħa, għand il-Knisja” (Mt 18:15-17)… Read more »
