He changes the question – Bishop Galea-Curmi

Saint Sebastian's Parish Church, Ħal Qormi

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“U l-proxxmu tiegħi min hu?” (Lq 10:29) Din hi d-domanda li, kif rajna fl-Evanġelju llum, għamel l-għaref tal-liġi lil dak li kien il-milja tal-għerf, Ġesù.

Ġesù kien spjega kif l-akbar kmandament huwa li tħobb lill-Mulej Alla tiegħek “b’qalbek kollha, b’ruħek kollha, b’moħħok kollu, u bil-qawwa tiegħek kollha, u l-proxxmu tiegħek bħalek innifsek” (Lq 1:26); u dan l-għaref għamillu d-domanda: “u l-proxxmu tiegħi min hu?”

Jekk naraw dak li jgħid Ġesù fil-parabbola tas-Samaritan it-Tajjeb, nindunaw li Ġesù, bħala edukatur veru tajjeb, jgħinu mhux biss biex ikollu risposta għad-domanda tiegħu, imma biex jagħraf li hemm bżonn jibdel id-domanda tiegħu… Read more »

Pope at Angelus: Do I know how to forgive?

Dear brothers and sisters, buongiorno!

Today’s Gospel presents us a surprising parable: the master of a vineyard goes out from the first dawn until evening to call in some workers, but in the end, he pays everyone equally, even those who have only worked one hour (cf. Mt 20:1-16). It would seem an injustice, but the parable is not to be read through wage criteria; rather, it intends to show us the criteria of God, who does not calculate our merits, but loves us as children… Read more »

Following the recitation of the Angelus prayer on 24 September, Pope Francis marked World Migrant and Refugee Day, echoing his message on the fundamental importance of the right to choose whether to migrate or to stay in one’s homeland.

The theme for this year’s celebration, “Free to choose whether to migrate or to stay,” underscores the critical need for migration to be a voluntary and dignified choice, rather than a desperate necessity… Read more »

Readings of the day

First Reading: Ezra 1:1-6
Psalm: 125 (126):1-2ab,2cd-3,4-5,6

Gospel: Luke 8:16-18

“No one after lighting a lamp hides it under a jar, or puts it under a bed, but puts it on a lampstand, so that those who enter may see the light. For nothing is hidden that will not be disclosed, nor is anything secret that will not become known and come to light. Then pay attention to how you listen; for to those who have, more will be given; and from those who do not have, even what they seem to have will be taken away.”  Read more »

Mass on the 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time

The Church of St Francis, Msida

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Ma nafx jekk tiftakrux li fil-parabbola li rrakonta Ġesù l-Ħadd li għadda, semma t-talenti. Kien hemm wieħed raġel li lis-sid tiegħu kellu jagħtih 10,000 talent u għedna li t-talent kien kejl tad-deheb jew tal-fidda. Illum jissarraf bil-miljuni. Mentri dan il-qaddej, li sidu ħafirlu somma kbira ħafna, sab sieħbu ieħor li kellu jagħtih 100 dinar u għedna li d-dinar kien il-paga tal-jum… Read more »
